60th Transformation [video]

[Well, here's two faces that haven't been seen by anyone since Fourth Wall weekend ended. Envy and Scar are certainly looking the worse for wear between the scrapes, bruises, and what grime wouldn't come off in a Pokemon Center sink, because that's what happens when you're lost in a dark cave for almost two weeks.]

[Judging from the wind and the way their clothes and hair are whipping around them, they're in the air…and stuck on the back of a single Pokemon. Envy is sitting in front of Scar, and Scar is looming behind him and not looking like he quite fits on the back of a bananasaurus.]

[For a second after he opens the feed, Envy's just giving the camera a tired, thousand yard stare. His mouth isn't visible under the scarf he's wearing, so no hints there. But then he snaps out of it enough to say:]

So we didn't die. We're on our way back to Goldenrod now. I'm never going in another cave again as long as I live.

[And he doesn't have the energy for much more than that. THAT'S THE MESSAGE, THERE IT IS. He closes out the feed.]

It's been many years ago now that I traversed the cursed crevices of that forsaken hole in the ground. The GPS application on my 'gear broke and began to babble incessantly in tongues not meant for the ears of man.

It was all we had and we listened, like starving children, in blind hope that it would eventually point us the way home.

[Holy shit, Jack.]

...our 'Gears just being smashed into pieces suddenly doesn't sound so bad.

_{[Jack continues to stare into the void. His mouth is a tight little frown. Though he is jolly and springy, a small part of him broke that day in the caverns. His friend, the rainbow-haired girl who experienced the horror along side him has long since gone home.]

[Only he carries the burden.]}

No 'Gears at all sounds better than incessant babbling in tongues not meant for the ears of man.

[And why are Scar and Envy together, what is happening lately?!?]

[Lust it is so good to see you right now, you don't even know.]

That weekend spat us out in the middle of a cave. And our 'Gears got broken.

There was a cave-in.

[IT'S BEEN A BAD TWO WEEKS.]

[Scar has been quietly keeping out of the camera as much as he can, until now. When the screen pops on, he leans over Envy's shoulder to see who it is.

Oh.

His eyes widen, almost imperceptibly, and he slowly leans back, out of the camera's sight.]

Good god. I assumed Scar was just avoiding me, but I was starting to worry about you.

Are you on your way home?

[At that, he manages something close to a grin. It's an exhausted one, but still a little cocky.]

Yeah, we should be back in the city tonight or tomorrow. We're in Kanto right now.

[HE POKES IN AGAIN-]

I'm not avoiding you.

[SNUFF GRUMBLEGRUMBLE]

Oh good. Envy...we need to talk when you get home.

And I had no way of knowing, Scar, all things considered. I'm glad you're alright.

[A feeling of dread shoots through him at that, and it even shows a little on his face...but no. If Dante had shown up here outside of the weekend, Lust would tell him now and not later. But whatever it is, it's clearly something she doesn't want to talk about with Scar right here, so he just nods.]

Yeah. Yeah, we do.

[He has the weekend to talk with her about. He glances over his shoulder, looking to see what Scar is going to react to what else she said.]

[Scar stares at the screen with a frown when Lust alludes to having some sort of private conversation with Envy when they return. What's so secret that he can't hear about it? His mood is quickly souring, and it's obvious.

Tired as he is, Scar always has energy to hate Envy. He wavers for a moment when Lust addresses him, glancing up at the 'gear. He doesn't want to talk to her with him around, but his frown does shift to something more relaxed for a moment.

Just a moment. It's gone now. Back to Envy, with a frown.]

Drop me at the Center.

[...well, that explains why Scar wasn't answering any calls. And of course he's with the last person Al ever wants to speak to ever.]

[...meh, he'll click the feed on anyway.]

Envy, just hand the 'Gear to Scar, I don't feel like yelling at you right now.

[Envy narrows his eyes when Al pops up.]

[But you know what? He's too tired and sore and cold to bring himself to start an argument right now.]

Yeah, whatever. Fuck you too.

[And even that doesn't have near the level of vitriol as normal. But he'll hand the 'Gear over his shoulder to Scar. HERE, YOU CAN TALK TO YOUR EX-TIN CAN FRIEND.]

[Scar snatches the gear, "accidentally" bumping Envy a bit as he grabs it.]

Hello, Alphonse.

[He locks the feed on reflex.]

[Al looks much more relieved when Scar comes fully into frame.] Scar! Are you okay?

I'm fine. We've been trapped since the tail end of that... weekend, where everything happens.

[He's sure Al knows what he's talking about.]

Oh jeez...I was so worried about you! You're not hurt or anything, are you?

[Yeah, Scar said he was okay, but that man would consider 'only losing half my blood' to be 'okay'.]

Envy said something about a cave?

Yes, we were stuck in one of the cave systems in Kanto.

...I told you I'm fine.

[Scar you lying piece of shit.]

Oh, jeez. I spoke with someone that weekend that was stuck in a cave, too, but they still had their 'Gear, obviously.

[You see this face, Scar? Do you see an abundance of belief there?] Scar, what did Envy do.

I can still hear you!

I didn't do anything except help him climb every cliff in the cave because he broke his leg.

[HMPH.]

[It's PRETTY OBVIOUS whom he's talking to, there...]

Envy didn't do anything. There was a cave-in.

I understand that feeling perfectly.

[Mt. Mortar, how he misses you. Not.]

Goldenrod, you say? Would you like to receive a bottle of wine, to celebrate your freedom from the rocks and the dirt?

[Envy blinks, surprised. Of all the responses to get, a stranger offering him a bottle of wine wasn't one he was expecting. He sort of recognizes the man as someone he's seen on the network for a long time, but not someone he's spoken to before.]

[Envy's not very used to random charity.]

Just for getting out of a cave?

For getting out of a cave in one piece, with apparently a large part of your sanity intact, after what I assume to be nearly half a month. If that cave happened to be the Ice Path, I'll even offer stronger alcohol.

[Since that one's a tradition and all.]

[Envy shudders faintly at the idea of the Ice Path.]

Never been in that one, never plan on being in that one.

But...yeah, I'll take you up on that wine. [Honestly he would really like to be drunk as soon as possible. People who he'd rather not have ever seen again showed up over that weekend, on top of the cave.]

This one was. Especially once the light went out. And there was the cave-in, and the killer Mawile, and all the climbing...

[He could complain about what a shitty time they had in this cave all day.]

I'd stay away from Rock Tunnel if I were you, kid.

Huh. I wonder if... there's Zubats there, right? I wonder if they behave like bats at home do. If they do, following them might get you out faster if you ever get stuck in there again.

Though that doesn't help you now. You're on your way back to a city, right?

[He could always rescue them with his bird, but. If someone doesn't need his help he's not gonna push it.]

Never been in a cave here without Zubats. But I've also never seen them leave the cave at night like real bats do, they're just...always there.

[He rubs the bridge of his nose.]

Yeah, that's what I said before. Why?

Weird. I guess maybe they don't eat the same things.

[... Oh. Right. He was busy thinking about bats. And having to acquire one while being a bird, and the whole oatmeal thing.]

I just figured if you needed a ride or your flying pokemon got tired I could help out...

Who knows what they eat? Would've been nice for them to be useful like that, though.

[Envy tilts his head at the offer. Like with Cecil's offer, he's almost confused. Relative-strangers offering him things, what.]

Nah, unless you're in Kanto. If you're in Johto, by the time you got here on the train we'd be in Saffron to get on the train ourselves.

[Pause.]

[Nacho the Hawlucha pokes his head into the shot. Can he fight the people on the screen? Tobias pushes his head down. No. Bad bird.]

Is Kanto a lot different than Johto or is it basically more of the same?

[Envy looks almost amused at the Hawlucha, and then shrugs.]

It's different enough to be interesting. Some people I know had a good time exploring it earlier this year.

Maybe once we get some more badges. We need to hit Cianwood, at least, since I don't have anything that's good against Psychics to get the Fly HM.

_{[ARRIVES LATE WITH COFFEE. How late is up to the mun's discretion-- it's entirely possible Wrath just didn't even see this video until Envy and Scar actually made it back to Goldenrod.]

[Either way, Wrath is beyond excited to see the other Homunculus. He'd already had a little... talk with Lust. That hadn't gone the way either of them wanted it to at all. But seeing another ~loyal~ team-mate sent the little monster into paroxysms of hopeful excitement. YES! ENVY WAS HERE! He'll know what to do!]}

Scar's eyes widen as he watches the screen, but he doesn't draw attention to himself. This kid knows Envy. Not shocking, but interesting. He'll have to watch and wait.]

[And thinking about Lust and Wrath at the same time makes him narrow his eyes and scowl at the camera.]

[Wrath hadn't mentioned traitors when he showed up over the weekend...he must be from just before everything happened in that warehouse. Envy actually doesn't really know what happened before that.]

[His weekend discovery that he's not as free of her influence as he'd thought might also have something to do with the vehemence. Just a bit.]

_{[While he'd been more or less shouting straight into the mic for his first transmission, now he seems to have forgotten about his initial concerns over whether Envy would be able to hear him or not. His voice has now grown very small.]}

[The fact that Scar's in this post interests him. Also the mention of death. HE DOESN'T NEED ANOTHER FRIEND DYING. GOD. So that's good news that they didn't at least.]

There wasn't one of those in there, but you know what was? The cutest little yellow thing, except then when it came out of the shadows it had a giant toothy alligator mouth growing out of the back of its head.

That's what was in that cave.

Like, there was ONE THOUGHT running through that thing's head, and it was murder.

.... So yeah, guess which Pokemon popped up in my box when that girl disappeared.

[The latter part is technically addressed to both Envy and Scar, but it might be possible to pick up on the underlying apprehension that France has seeing these two together. He's 99.9% sure they're not exactly rodeo partners.]

[Envy's expression softens immediately upon seeing France; even if it's not in person yet, France is still a sight for sore eyes.]
