[He has to say something, he can't just stand here by the door in silence forever. But it's difficult.]

My...half brother. He showed up today.

[And just from the way Envy says 'half brother' like a curse, it's very clear that this is not a happy relationship.]

I wanted...I wanted to go after him. But I didn't. I called Heather, and she came over and helped keep me from going.

[France breathes in. He has come to the conclusion recently that Envy's life back home is not only unenviable (pardon the pun) but also deeply unhappy. It doesn't surprise him that this new person from Envy's world would be cause for anger and distress. It just makes France feel sad.]

You did the right thing. Going after a person when emotions are running high is never the best idea.

[It's said softly and clearly with the memory of France's own personal experiences. He seems to roll the question he voices next over before voicing it.]

[Something in Envy seems to snap at the question. His shoulders tense up and he just starts babbling, his voice a caustic mix of fury and confusion and hopelessness.]

Because I hate him, him and his brother and my bastard father for replacing me with them. That they could do what they did and then gain back the price they paid and kill their mistake and kill me for their happy ending...

[He hadn't wanted France to see him like this, that's one of the reasons why he'd called Heather instead. But it's coming out anyway, he can't stop himself.]
