Twenty-first Transformation [video/action for Ecruteak]

[It's been a while since the network last got any broadcasts from Envy's 'Gear; just a day shy of a month since he woke back up in Johto kicking and screaming. He's spent that time getting re-used to the world, getting used to being human and to everything that comes with it all over again. It was easier to manage this time, even after being gone a year, and he's not sure if he likes thinking about that.]

[But when the 'Gear turns on, it's not pointed at Envy's face, but up at the sky and the treetops. From the lack of buildings and the forest, it looks like he's out walking just outside of Ecruteak. The camera's following the flying form of a smaller-than-average Tropius as she wheels and skims along the treetops as fast as her leafy wings can propel her and actually looking oddly graceful for such an un-aerodynamic creature. She backwings right in the sight of the camera, neck arched like a question mark, and peers down at her trainer before she's off in another direction again. But she did stop long enough for viewers to catch sight of the little blue Riolu perched on the top of her head, looking perfectly secure in her footing. Apparently this is far from the first time the two Pokemon have done this.]

I still don't know how something looking like that can even fly at all.

[And there's Envy. The camera lingers on the flying pair for a moment longer before he turns the camera to himself. He's sitting on the back of his Tyranitar while Chimera lays out and enjoys the sun, so he's looking a bit farther off the ground than usual. Envy looks a far cry from the raging, wild-eyed person who woke up a month ago; he's back to looking composed and neat and just a little smirkish. Adjusted back into Johto? Mostly. Forgotten the reason why he was so angry? Hell no.]

There's something I've been wondering about, and I figured I might as well try the network. Does anyone happen to come from a world with a place called…'London', I think it was? I don't know anything more than the name, but--

[He's interrupted by a pair of loud, startled cries from up in the air, and the video tilts and wobbles crazily as Envy jumps up and off Chimera's back and lets the arm holding it fall to his side.] Damn it, Izumi--!

Watchers might be able to catch the remnants of a bright glow coming from somewhere above the screen before they'll see that Tropius make an extremely ungraceful, skidding landing in the dirt, along with a newly evolved and newly very dusty Lucario. Turns out that suddenly carrying a much bigger passenger while in the middle of some fancy flying trick does terrible things for your balance. Envy's already walking over to the pair of them, but they're getting to their feet and look like their only injury was to their pride. The now-Lucario barely even looks like that's the case, more concerned with looking over her evolved form with a mix of wonder and smugness.]

Heh, I was wondering when you'd evolve, Samus. [Envy sounds almost proud of her, and gives the fur on her head a ruffle with his free hand. Izumi makes an indignant noise and butts her head against his side to demand attention too. Envy sighs and relents, ending the feed to free up his hand before he winds up getting knocked over by a flying bananasaur.]

[England's expression lights up at the mention of it.]

I know London. It's my capital city, home of the government and the monarchy. I daresay I know it better than anyone.

[It's his heart after all.]

Oh, congratulations!

[Oh how lucky for Envy, that was a fast answer!]

Really? That's--

[And that's when it hits him. If this London on the other side of the Gate is in England's world, then that's where he's going if he ever goes back home. When he pushed his way through those doors, he'd never even considered that if he reached the other side he might be in a place with people he knows and cares about. People that he could look for after he'd found Hohenheim. Envy's face breaks into a pleased grin.]

...probably the luckiest news I've heard in a while. [He nods at the congratulations and Samus looks pleased in the bottom corner of the screen, but his focus is on this new information.]

[England positively beams at that. He likes it when people are happy to know his cities, every Nation is for the most part.]

Well, I'm glad that it's of some use to you. Was there anything specific that you wanted to know?

[Envy thinks on this. Because really, who better to ask how to prepare for a city than the country that city is in?]

What's it like? I'm...going to be showing up there soon if I ever go back home, if things turn out right. It'd be sometime around 1914.

[...he can mention being a dragon later.]

[He blanches at the mention of the year. Hardly the best time to be arriving.]

It's... it's my heart. You chose a bad year to be arriving, I'm afraid. War breaks out that year. But London... London is ancient, and one of the world's great cities. Then it was still the capital of a great empire, centre of the world's economy. It has some great pubs too, palaces, parks. Anything that a person could want.

[Probably wise. England would fanboy.]

[Of course he would show up during ~~zeppelin attacks~~ a war. That's Envy's luck for you. He nods, though.]

I've been through enough wars, I can get through another. But it's lucky for me to be landing in such a nice place, even with that. I'll look around if I get the chance.

[He's still under the assumption that he'll be able to transform back once he gets there.] ...I'll be looking for someone when I get there. Is it easy to find people?

That's probably going to be an advantage. It was a particulary vicious war.

Hmmm... it depends where you go. Most of Europe should have birth and death records and land registers. For one of us though... [Because he can guess who Envy wants to find.] The seat of parliament. You might be able to find someone to pass on a message.

[Envy nods again. Considering he and his group are usually the ones to start vicious wars, he's pretty sure he'll be able to stay out of the way. Of course, he doesn't know that he won't be able to transform.]

Thanks. Seat of parliament, I'll remember that. [And he will. Envy actually looks genuinely grateful for that information too.]

I'm also looking for someone from my own world, who I was told crossed into yours and was in London. Van Hohenheim? [He doesn't think England will have actually heard of him, really, but any possible leads are worth a try.]

[England is glad to help. It would be strange going to another world and finding someone you knew could be reasurring. He had discovered that here.

Unfortunately, the name is unfamiliar to him, and he shakes his head.]

I don't know him, I'm afraid. It sounds German though.

[Not exactly his favourite country right now]

I'd offer to look, but I'm from twenty five years or so after that. I don't think anything I would find would be relevant anymore.

[Sigh. Nothing is ever that easy.] Worth a try. I'll find him on my own.

[He really should probably ask about this though, and who better to give him an accurate answer? Still, Envy looks more guarded about this question than he did for his others.]

...how much of a commotion would it cause for a dragon to appear around the city and then vanish? [He's guessing the answer is a lot of one but he's hoping for non fatal at least.]

Good luck with it. But... if he is German, it wouldn't be the best time to go looking. Things are not pleasant there.

[Admittedly he is extremely biased for obvious reasons. He thinks that Envy might be as well once he finds out about France being occupied.

He blinks at the sudden non sequiteur. How did they get onto dragons?]

...rather a lot, I expect. They aren't exactly common. Most people don't believe they exist. If it vanishes though, at that time, people might write it off as a mass hallucination cause by war.

It'll just focus on her breasts for the rest of the time because she's sort of overly paranoid about this place and the people in it. ]

[Lust is about the last person Envy would have expected to get a response from in Johto, so forgive him for taking a moment to actually put things together.]

Sort of. I arrived a little while ago but didn't trust the network or communication device until I saw you. [ Which wasn't too much better. So boring. ] Mind explaining to me this place?

[It's much easier to do when he's happy and not angry :D]

[He is also perfectly happy to explain the situation to her directly without being infuriatingly roundabout like he is with every other newbie ever. Unserious mission briefing let's go.] Well, we've been dragged into this other world called Johto, no one knows how or why. And nobody can find a way to go back home willingly. Hell, I've been here almost a year. But sometimes people vanish and everyone assumes they've gone home. We're all given a Pokemon to train and fight with, and as far as I've been able to tell it's just the local sport and a way to fend off the wild ones. There's not much else to do. And you're lucky you didn't post that question to the network or you would've gotten fifteen people telling you all that over and over trying to be helpful.

Oh, and we've all been turned into humans, I'm sure you're happy about that. [He's definitely not and it shows in his voice, but since he thinks she's the Lust he knows, he assumes she's thrilled because it's half of all she ever talks about.]

[ Oddly enough, to Envy, Lust's blurry glare just seems to tighten as he goes on. It's clear she's not even remotely happy about this. ]

So in short, we have the basics but there's still several questions that need to be solved, which are the most obvious ones. Are pokemon some sort of chimera? I've been trying to learn what this one is for a couple of days. [ She'll pan the feed to Sneasel who boastfully stands, claws on hips. ] Number 215 has been oddly arrogant. It's pathetic. Besides, I these people seemed to be relatively helpless, and if this is all you know then these people must be clueless anyways. [ Helpful? A human? Not unless they're being manipulated or a meat shield. ]

Now, Ferdinand, why would be I happy about that? [ Staring into him like he just said the most batshit thing ever. ]

It's nowhere near all I know, my dear Isabel, I just thought I wouldn't throw everything at you at once.

I thought they were chimeras at first, but it turns out they're just the natural wildlife. Natural wildlife that can breathe fire and summon earthquakes and lightning if you train them enough. Much more useful than any chimera could be. [He glances at her Sneasel curiously, and smirks.] So that's the kind you got. It looks fitting with those claws.

[He's distracted from explaining more by her reaction to his jab about being human, and looks surprised. Dropping the smirk in favor of a small, confused and somewhat wary frown. And now setting this feed to private, nobody else gets to listen in on any homunculus-talk.]

I don't know, you're the one who most wanted to be one.

...What was happening right before you were taken here?

How surprisingly thoughtful of you. I could have sworn you were always more self-centered. [ Her smile widens into a bit of a more teasing one! Aka, Otoutou let your big kawaii onee-chan tease you desu ^_^

So this is another world entirely? Perfect. Just what I needed to get the job done. [ said in the driest sarcasm. ] Father won't be too pleased with this obstacle. Is there any other people here from home?

I suppose if they have this much power, it's very fitting. Only time will be able to test Number 215's abilities. Hopefully it won't disappoint, but I am not exactly a woman of hope. [ aka until this thing brings her home she's unimpressed. ]

I would never want to be a member of that pathetic, sad, race. Surely you must be joking. [ She states it in more of a command than a question. ] Besides, why would I want to go back on the evolutionary ladder?

The last thing I remember is stopping the Fullmetal Brat from going in too deep inside the laboratory. We both killed #48.

Both Elric brothers are here, along with Edward's mechanic, who I've already convinced that I'm friendly and helpful. And the Flame Alchemist is here too. Greed used to be here, along with another military guy names Maes Hughes, but they've both vanished.

[He lists all these off while he considers what she's been saying. There sure are a lot of things that aren't matching up :| ]

Now I've got a question for you. Who the hell is Father?

Great. 3 out of 5 candidates. At least I have something to do. Nice work convincing Miss Rockbell that you're friendly. Even though we come from different worlds, at least you have your wits.

[ Her voice sounds drier and even more irritated at the different worlds. What a hassle. ]

Father is basically the man who created us. The original homunculus. I'll tell you his origins when we meet up, but if you have distaste for a man named Hohenheim, then I suppose it'll be an interesting story. [ she's studying his reaction so closely. She knows she can be a bit loose with information considering their alliance with her and his joy to see her, but she still keeps it tight. ]

I should hope I have my wits after three and a half centuries of being a spy. [Despite his smirk, he's clearly a bit put out about her being a different Lust too. And at least now all the discrepancies between the stories he'd heard from the others and his own make more sense. A whole different world containing all the same people, who would have guessed?]

[At the mention of Hohenheim he noticeably looks more interested.] Distaste would be putting it lightly. I hate him more than anyone else in any world, so it should be an interesting story indeed.

A homunculus creating other homunculi? So you're not made by alchemists, then?

Three hundred and fifty years? My, my. That's around Pride's age. Where I'm from, you're about one hundred and seventy five, and the fourth oldest. I'm the second oldest, edging out around two hundred and fifty. [ She has the same apprehensions but she's not going to show them. Envy has proven himself to be a friendly resource, despite how he's older and from a different world and everything. |: Oh well. She'll just make do with him anyways. If they were friends in the other world, then that was something to be used here.

Her apprehensions weren't exactly diminished but they were lightened with his reaction. ] Then you'll be joyed to hear about the misery he went through for his foolishness.

[ she gives him the funniest look ever that should question why he even asked that question! What type of question is that?! ] No, why would we? Being made from a human? How embarrassing. Homunculi are the next wavelength of evolution, not something created to be subservient to a mere human. [ WHAT MEASURE IS A NON HUMAN. ]

Almost four hundred, actually, but there were some complications for a while after I was first created. [He's watching her just as closely as she is him, but he's hiding any wariness well under the smirkish grin on his face.] In my world, I was the very first homunculus created. You're actually one of the younger ones, not more than a few decades old.

[And he is certainly glad to hear about any Hohenheim suffering, even if it isn't his own. He'll let that go for now in favor of her next statements.] Ha, just because foolish alchemists thought they could bring back the dead and got us instead, that hardly means we're subservient to them. Homunculi are superior to humans in every way.

[ She just flexes her eyes towards him. ] Four hundred? My, my, things look more different than they appear. [ She'll gently tease him next. ] You look well for pushing four-hundred, I would have assumed you'd be in a home by now, Envy. [ His statement however perplexes her. ] One of the younger ones? Hmph. Your world has a lot to correct. [ She'll roll her eyes at being one of the younger ones. She likes her second oldest role, thank you very much. ]

We were made from the philosopher's stone, and have no connection to humans except Hohenheim, who ended up creating the person who made us and paid dearly for it. [ She's seemingly apathetic towards being connected to Hohenheim. ] We're the next wavelength of evolution, and it's a shame to see how many pitiful humans can think they can beat us.

[At her teasing, he pouts for a second before snickering.] Well, as you can see my form is as young and cute as ever. [Ah vanity, what would Envy do without it.] If anyone should be in a home it's our Pride. He ages like a human in my world, but if he's so old in yours I expect it isn't the same.

...The Philosopher's Stone, huh? Funny, that's what my master has been searching for all this time. It's too bad our worlds couldn't meet like we can here, it would make my job so much easier.

[His expression goes from a smirk to a frown.] I wouldn't be so certain. I've heard from the Flame Alchemist that he defeated your Envy. And in my world, I'm the last standing, even though we had all seven for a little while. It's troublesome, what those damned humans have managed.

Your form is highly similar to what you look like back home, except I don't really recall the green hair do. [ in other words that green is nonexistent buddy. ] Ah, we have one that ages like a human too. His name is Wrath, but also known as King. [ just testing the waters if he can make that assumption. ]

Well, Envy, back home you're made of one, and I doubt Father will allow me to give one away without meeting this other master.

I don't have any recollection of you dying to the Flame Alchemist. You haven't even met him where I'm from. But, if you're the last one standing, what happened to the other Lust?

[ She'll just shrug at those damn humans. ] Hmph. The fact that you've fallen to the humans just states on which side appears stronger, Envy. The only meddling I've had to deal with is the fullmetal brat inside the laboratory.

King Bradley? Interesting, he's known as Pride to us. Our Wrath is a little brat that causes more trouble than he's worth. [And in the end, that had been why Dante had let the Gate have him. He didn't know what had happened to Wrath after he left, but missing limbs and useless like that, Dante probably had him killed. Envy doesn't particularly want to think about that.]

[He does frown, not liking her implication of being the weaker versions.] Hey, our side was all alive back at the Fifth Laboratory too, if that's the lab you're talking about. So if you remember this place when you go home, be careful.

...as for Lust, she defected. She figured out that our master wasn't going to give her what she wanted, so she went to the Elrics. Wrath killed her for her betrayal, right after they killed Sloth.

Pride? Hardly seems like one to be gifted with the name. [ A pause. ] He's able to hold back his temper, but that doesn't mean it's nonexistent. A little brat would sound more like Pride, except he's not as bratty. He takes the form of King Bradley's son, Selim. [ This was an interesting meeting, a very interesting one. ]

I don't need your concern but I appreciate the effort. [ yes yes more poking fun. ]

[ .... A pause. Dead? Her? Dead? Well, if she betrayed Father she definitely wouldn't be alive, and Envy can hear the slightest tone of fury in her voice towards both the Master and Wrath. ]

Well, she's a smart girl. So the master promised to make her human and, once I pieced together that wasn't plausible on her part, I defected only to be killed later? At least I took someone down with me. [ Her tone sounds particularly sadistic and vengeful. ]

Are you still aligned with your master?

I'd say the name suits him, he likes to pretend he's the favorite. But Selim? That gullible little human son of his is a homunculus in your world? [Envy really can't help but laugh at the idea.]

[At the topic of his Lust's death, though, he's frowning again. He's gone through hating and blaming just about everyone for her death since it happened, including her.]

...it wouldn't matter if I was or not, I'm not likely to see her again even if I do go back home. [He is dodging the hell out of that question.]

Hmph. I'm glad we agree. Selim, in our world, is Pride. He's a lot more intelligent than he lets on. But given that all Homunculus, sans Sloth, are accounted for between our worlds, myself, Envy and Gluttony are the same to some extent, Wrath has become Pride, A random child has become Wrath, and Selim loses his position. It seems are worlds are similar to some extent, or at least to the extent where one could pass as the other? [ She lets out the biggest grin ever. She's planning something huge. ]

Ah. Let me guess, your Master passed on? [ She's smart enough to piece that together, at least. ] I can't say I'm too surprise given her track record with decisions. [ You. Don't. Lie. To. Lust. ]

Sounds about right. Sloth in my world was born out of the Elric brothers' failed transmutation of their mother, and our Wrath from their teacher's dead son. I'll give you more details when we meet in person. [Oh, Envy recognizes that grin. And he wants to know what's up.] You look like you're planning something, Lust, I see that much hasn't changed. What is it?

[At Dante being dead or not, though, he has to shrug. It's really too bad he can't tell her about his master's incredibly fitting death, but he wasn't there for it. He doesn't want to mention his trip through the Gate right now though.] She could have, but I wouldn't know. She was still alive when I was brought here, but who knows how long that will last, with her plans becoming unraveled?

So the Homunculi are created by failed human transmutations? [ She at least can figure something similar to this. After all, she does know about the human transmutations. ] Anyways, I'm planning to borrow the identity of Lust from your world. If she knows about the Elric's enough to defect, then I guess I can take her place and just play nice with them. I need to keep my eyes on them after all, they are Father's prime candidates.

[ and the smile becomes outright twisted as Lust creates a huuuuuge grin. ] She should have known better than to mess with her helpers. [ Lust states this, ironically, not knowing she's the reason why Dante died if you look at it in the grand scheme of things with Gluttony. ] Let's just hope she's put in her place. [ Y e p. Dante not giving other Lust what she wants is enough for her to actually spitefully wish her plans come to a close. Damn humans, believing they have control over homunculi. ]

[The bananasaurus's head is onscreen behind Envy's, and she's looking at Henry right back and trying to decide if this human is admiring her or is a potential opponent. Or maybe both. Everyone is a potential opponent to Izumi, the terror that flaps in the night.]

Yeah, it's a very important place. Lots of art museums and old buildings.

Yeah, I lived 'round there for a while.

[Because as far as he knows it is about to have a dragon fall out of the sky on it.]

Um, pretty big, I guess. Not as big as Tokyo though--um, where I used to live. [Way to realize that if the guy was asking what London was like, he probably didn't know what Tokyo was like, Hidaka.] Lots of big buildings, lots of old buildings. Like...really old buildings.

[Descriptive. Never be a tour guide, Ken.]

...okay, so it hasn't been very long, I guess.

[Well crap, large green dragons are probably not going to go unnoticed in a large city. But yeah nope, Envy doesn't know what Tokyo is either, so he'll just take Ken's word for it on the size. He does snicker though, not letting what he's thinking show.]

Well, I've lived in old cities before so I'm sure I'll be right at home. So it's pretty crowded?

Yeah. Millions of residents, and it's a pretty popular tourist spot besides.

[What Ken doesn't know is that you're about to fall into the middle of ZEPPELIN BOMBINGS GO but...history isn't his best subject he probably wouldn't place the timeline anyway aside from 'hey, that was when everyone was fighting wasn't it?']

London? That's a place in England-- what were you curious about?

I was in one of those comas that take you home for a while, London was where I was heading when I got brought back. [He makes it sound like no big deal at all. Just crossing worlds, nothing to see here~] I was just curious about who else was from that world.

Do you know what sort of place it is, besides the country it's in?

[ she's done it twice, she won't be that surprised. ]

I've heard it rains quite a bit there, but aside from that, I've never been to it myself.

[It's more that he was crossing worlds within his own canon that he doesn't want to bring up as a big deal.]

Yeah, someone else told me about the rain. Must have pretty bad weather for two people to comment on that first. Just my luck.

Not fond of the rain, then?

I don't know how that plant dinosaur can fly either, aru.

[He blinks.] Did... you just say London?

At this point I'm half willing to just put it down to magic. Johto isn't much for physics. [He sighs, but there's no real frustration behind it. He hasn't been any kind of scientist in a long time.]

[At the question, though, he leans forward in interest.] Yeah. I talked to England about it, he said it's in his and your world.

I have nearly given up on trying to figure out anything that goes on here, aru. [Not completely, just nearly. He was a curious one after all.]

[China nods.] He is right, it is. I have been there a couple of times myself, but I'm sure he can tell you so much more about it, aru.

[Envy nods back.] He was pretty helpful.

Is China close to England? [Aka how hard will it be to go looking for you after he's gotten his revenge?]

Not exactly, you have to fly across a whole continent to get to my country, aru.

What year would it be when you go to London, because... you have to keep in mind that I was originally from 2010 when I came to Johto.

[Which means, that if it's an earlier year and even if Envy could find him, he would not recognize him. It's a depressing realization, but it was the truth.]

It'd be around 1914. That was the year in Amestris anyway.

[Envy doesn't like this realization either. But he does have to find Hohenheim before looking for anyone else, and after that? He'll wait.]

[China swallows hard.]

Am I right to assume that England has already told you about the war that begins that year?

[He nods, frowning briefly before adopting a self-assured look.]

He did. But I've been through plenty of wars, one more shouldn't be an issue.

I wouldn't doubt it, aru. It is the same with me as well. Still, do be careful when you go there. Riots erupt all over the world, aru.

I'll be careful. I've got some things to get done before I'll let anything happen to me.

Hopefully you will still have your ability to transform in our world, aru.

[He chuckles a bit.]

I can't imagine how people would react if they saw a dragon flying over London.

[Envy half laughs.] Probably not well, if the humans in your world are anything like mine.

I don't know why I wouldn't still be able to, though, so it shouldn't be any trouble for me to change back and vanish.

You would get mixed reactions. Some will be terrified, while others will be amazed, aru.

I'm just curious how our world would accept someone who came from another. Would it let that person keep their powers, or would it take them away to make try and make that person fit in with the majority like Johto does?

[He nods.] Sounds about right.

...well, you guys have powers right? So it isn't like nobody has them. [He is really not liking this sudden idea of 'maybe you won't have powers anymore'.]

We do, but as far as I know, we're the only ones who have such abilities, aru. I did say that I have no clue how our world would accept a person from another one.

I've never been to London but I've heard of it.

Seems like it's more widely known than I thought it was.

Mind sharing what you've heard? [He's pretty sure he's about to wind up there if he ever goes home, and he wants to be prepared.]

Uh, it's the capital city of England? It's a big place, apparently good for shopping and there's a lot of history on it - I'm not very clear on it though.

We've got a London. I haven't spent much time there.

I hadn't thought London would be such a well known place, honestly. But if you've been there, would you happen to know how well the city would take to the sudden appearance of a large dragon?

[Envy looks up when he notices Tulio coming, and laughs.]

I wouldn't put it past her, she's disobedient enough already. [Hey. HEY, trainer Izumi can understand you don't make fun of her. Envy gets another headbutt to the side for that one that doesn't knock him over but does make him stagger.]

Damn it you overgrown-- [Too late, Izumi has already flapped her way up into the air, making a bigger than necessary dust cloud on purpose, and has gone to shun him in the (sturdy) branches of a nearby tree. And Samus is making noises that sound very suspiciously like laughing at him. Envy just scowls at them both before turning back to Tulio and acting like nothing happened. You saw none of that.]

Yeah, if she did evolve we might be in trouble.

_{[Oh. Oooh, but he saw plenty of that, and takes a jab at it.]}

Yeah, but it looks like you're in trouble anyway. She could probably stomp you flat without being twice as big, if we're lucky.

Learned something earlier you should know, though. Someone from my world showed up. Well, not actually, but from some...parallel dimension place, it's weird. But she's from my old group, and she's the same kind of thing I am.

[He assumes Tulio knows what said tattoo looks like by now, now that it's been warm out and Envy doesn't wear long pants all the time.]

More people keep showing up from my world, and most of them are our enemies, like that guy who said he was going to kill me. It's safer if it doesn't get spread around that we're part of the same group, for anyone that might not know already.

[Chimera the Tyranitar sees Winry coming first, while Envy's still busy dealing with the two other Pokemon. He perks right up and walks closer to her curiously, because new people are great and she looks nice and maybe she will want to be friends with him :D]

[Envy looks over to Winry when he hears her voice, looking surprised for a moment before putting on a nonchalant and completely unthreatening grin. This girl really did make everything too easy for him, and now she was walking right up to him with nobody else in sight.]

They're both fine. It'd take more than a little crash like that to bother Izumi. [He puts a hand on the Tropius' neck.] And Samus is pretty tough herself.

[...The Tyranitar kind of reminds her of Armor!Al or Major Armstrong coming towards her. Winry smiles and waves to the approaching pokemon. Yup, it's too easy to become friends with this girl.

Careful, Envy, she might have a trick or two with her. Such as some other pokemon who can save her if the situation gets too tough. Swablu could try singing...]

Good. They look strong too.

[Chimera is always happy when people aren't afraid of him, and interprets that wave as an invitation to go right up to her and lower his head for attention. Envy just...doesn't comment, this happens with half the people they pass in the street. His starter wound up with a personality entirely opposite from his own.]

[Envy does consider that she might have Pokemon to defend her, and he's still deciding what to do with this opportunity in the first place. But for now, he grins, looking a little smug.] They are strong.

Are you just out for a walk with yours? [He nods his head at the Shinx.] I have one that used to look like that.

Congratulations on Samus's evolution!

London is England's capital in our world. As such, it's exceptionally bizarre. What would you like to know?

Heh, thanks. [Envy definitely sounds proud of Samus managing to finally evolve.]

I've heard a lot about the rain and the old buildings from other people, but mainly I'd wondered how well it would go over for a dragon to appear in the middle of it.

[He pauses to think of how to put this, because he's still half excited and half nervous about it.] Because that city's probably going to be where I'll come out of the Gate, back home.

Oh. Oh, God. Yes. Please do. That would--that would be excellent. Excellent. Can I be there when you do that?

[Okay, that laughter is kind of infectious, and Envy can't help grinning himself. Not to mention he's still happy about going to be in the same world as you guys.]

By all means, if it'd be that funny I'd like an appreciative audience.

Oh, man, you'd be both the most popular and most hated person in London. It's like you were made to be French.

[Envy looks so pleased with this, and a little smug too.] You think so?

Heh, I'll do my best to make an impression.

[Katara is shocked, seeing Envy actually behaving... nicely. She can't really help it. Save for Iroh and Zuko she hasn't exactly seen many villains or murderers being kind to anyone or anything, unless you count Azula's cruel manipulative streak.

Katara doesn't, just FYI.

Besides which, she's conflicted. Ed's a friend, Winry's a friend (he's also Nanao's friend, something reminds her), so she's angry at Envy for hurting them by killing someone they both cared about, but... some part of her isn't quite as angry as she was when she first heard the news and felt the sting of fairly fresh memories, of her own mother's murderer. No doubt speaking with Envy will rectify that straight away. It's doubtful if the two will get along, so why is she approaching, why is she speaking up?]

Didn't expect to see you here.

[Envy is too busy dealing with a demanding Tropius to notice her approaching until she actually speaks up. And when she does, his back briefly stiffens in surprise before he turns around. That time is all it takes for him to completely hide the affection he'd been showing before under an insufferable smirk. No he wasn't being nice to his Pokemon you saw nothing of the sort.]

Well, I've been in this city for a while now. It's you I'm surprised to see, you must have just gotten here.

[His smirk widens.] Brave of you, approaching a monster all by yourself.

[Oh GDI what she'd give to wipe that smirk off your face dude. Have her folding her arms, and glancing over your Pokemon instead.]

I'm not afraid of monsters. You'd be surprised what I can do to them when I have to. [Eyes narrow, oh dear, she's not at all bothering to hide the dark edge. You're talking to someone whose hands aren't exactly pure either, Envy, though she's a far, far cry from being on your level.]

Oh?

[That dark edge is more interesting to him than anything. It means he has something to go on. Sorry Katara, that smirk isn't going anywhere for now.]

I do seem to remember something that I saw in those dreams we all had. Something about controlling your enemies with their own blood?

[She flinches. It's barely perceptible but she does. Once you flip that switch, Envy, there's no switching it back off that easily, so you should probably be careful. :|]

That's right. My waterbending is capable of doing that too. [She's used it twice, once out of anger and the first time out of instinct, panicked instinct to protect her family. She's been terrified of the idea of losing control like on the Southern Raider's ship and... and doing... horrible things to someone. It's one reason she's glad her abilities don't work here at least.

She could hurt him another way, throw his own nightmare back in his face (it doesn't really matter that she'd be powerless and terrified in that kind of darkness too, with no moon, that she's been there), but that'd be the same as resorting to blood bending, she can't bring herself to do it so easily, or at least normally she couldn't. She remembers Ed's nightmares too, though...

Her fist clenches at her side.]

You're not far off from being just like me, are you?

[Yeah, Envy is bad at the whole 'not flipping switches' thing. When he can't hurt someone physically, he tries to hurt emotionally instead. Right now he's just testing her, trying to work out what he could say to get a reaction. Envy is so smart like that.]

After all, you wanted revenge on someone, you wanted them to suffer like they made you suffer, right?

But I'm NOT. [She's never been glad for that fact until he pointed out that it would make them the same. Suddenly her desire for that monster's head just... leaves her feeling a little bit hollow, a little bit sick. How had Ed said it?

Hands for healing... not for murder, not for killing...

Her fist twitches again.] You and I aren't the same. The man you killed didn't do anything to you! Don't you dare go comparing your agendas to mine!

You can say that all you want, but don't act like you're so much more noble than me.

[Even though she well. Pretty much is. But she does manage to break his insufferable smirking briefly as he scowls.]

[But then the smirk comes back up.]

You don't know the first thing about my agendas. But by the man I killed, I don't suppose you'd be talking about Ed's good friend Hughes, would you? Heh, but then Ed was bad luck for quite a few people.

[That may or may not be true, Katara doesn't know, honestly, because she's had so much doubt over what happened, what she wanted to do-- almost did. There were so many questions... It was like she didn't really know who she was when she was thinking about Yan Rah. It was like she became someone else entirely. Was she REALLY more noble, or just a coward on a soapbox who didn't even have the courage to follow through?

And okay. Either he was just really good at pushing buttons, or he was just really lucky, because that last comment just about does it for her. Bad luck for people? Her hand moves to her belt immediately, knowingly retrieving Jet and Kishi's Pokeballs.]

Then he's about to be really bad luck for you. I'm challenging you to a battle, right now, you creep!

[Envy laughs. He's sure he's been here longer than this girl, how strong could her Pokemon be?] A battle? Alright then, if you insist. Don't get too upset when you lose. Go--!

[He was going to send Chimera, but, well. Izumi heard the word 'battle'. So before he can even finish his sentence, the Tropius lets out a cry and flapps over to land in front of Envy. LET'S GO, OTHER TRAINER. Envy blinks, and then recovers.]

Right then, Izumi. You can start out and we'll see just which of our dear Fullmetal's acquaintances has picked up the worse luck.

Just make sure you follow your own advice. [Katara glowers. She knows this herself, so she figures that she's in for a fairly even fight at best, or worse, he'd have more experience. He'd have to have a pretty strong team by now. She tosses up Rapidash's ball first. Being "outclassed" has never stopped her before, though.]

Let's go, Jet! Time to teach this walking palm tree a lesson.

[The fire horse emerges with a snort, scraping its hoof on the ground as if preparing for a charge. He has no idea that this is more than just a friendly challenge, except that his trainer seems worked up. Still, he has nothing against the other Pokemon.]

[Envy glares daggers at the 'palm tree' comment. Heather is the only person who's allowed to make fun of his hair okay? And damn, fire type against his grass? That...might be a problem. But maybe he'll be lucky and have levels on it.]

Okay, Izumi, stomp it! [Izumi hasn't got anything against this Rapidash either, even if their trainers were arguing; she just enjoys a good fight. She might be slower than a Rapidash and at a disadvantage, but that doesn't stop her from charging right ahead to deliver a Stomp attack.]

[All he gets in response to his glare is a smirk. Allowed or not she'll do what she wants. She might not know just what she's up against, but if she can take on a master water bender at novice level and... well, it'll work out however it'll work out.]

Jet, dodge and counter with fire blast! [She's assuming that Tropius is high level, so she's not messing around with stat changing moves or anything. Jet, excited for a chance to show his stuff against a stronger opponent than the gym leaders, is all too glad to comply. He gracefully side steps the charging grass type and his mane flares to life with the attack.]

[Izumi isn't fast enough to dodge a fire blast at that close range, so it hits her almost head on. And since Jet is more than twice her level, she goes down with a loud shriek. That's a one hit K.O. for Katara, and Envy calls Izumi back into her ball with a scowl.]

You won't have such an easy time with this one. Chimera!

[The Tyranitar lumbers forward, having already been outside of his pokeball and on the sidelines, and lets out a roar. As gentle as he is, he's a strong fighter, and doesn't like seeing his friends getting taken down.]

Earthquake! [Chimera slams his tail against the ground, making the earth shake and crack in the direction of the Rapidash.]

[With the ground shaking violently it's all Katara can do to stand, let alone for Jet to gather his hooves fast enough to dodge. Unfortunately for Katara and Jet it's a one-hit K.O. to counter. She grits her teeth as he collapses to his knees. She recallshim.]

We'll see about that! Kishi, you're up!

[The Lapras bays, eyeing the opponent only for a moment before Katara gives the command.]

Hit it with Brine!

[Normally the move does more damage when the Pokemon is already down to half its HP, but since Kishi has a type and level advantage the question is more if it will hit or not.]

Chimera, try to dodge and use crunch!

[Chimera moves, and manages to dodge most of the attack. But it's still super effective, and afterwards he's barely standing. He still tries to follow through with his own Crunch attack, but even if it hits it would be weak.]

[Envy grits his teeth, and pulls out Chimera's pokeball to call him back. He doesn't want to lose Chimera to this type advantage even if it's not likely he'll be much use later. And secretly he just doesn't like seeing his starter get defeated.] That's enough for now. Xerxes!

[The Luxray comes out with a hiss and a flurry of sparks from his fur. There's a type advantage here, but a pretty steep level disadvantage.]

Good job, Kishi. [ Smart move, calling Chimera back Envy, Katara was in no mood for going easy, but there was an undeniable feeling of guilt that she was taking out her frustration on his Pokemon in a way.

Xerxes could definitely be a problem, though, Kishi was vulnerable to electric attacks. Would a possible level advantage be enough? ]

What's the matter, Envy, feeling a little in over your head? [ But there's always room for a good goad, isn't there? ]

Kishi, ice beam!

[ She sounded a lot like an angry whale when she responded-- Lapras were one of the few Pokemon that didn't actually utter their names --with the energy gathering quickly at her mouth. The move had a lower accuracy rate than others but they might get lucky. ]

You'd like to think so, wouldn't you? [He will deny being in over his head forever and ever, even if he's definitely wondering how Katara got such strong Pokemon and starting to expect to lose at this point.]

Xerxes, Discharge!

[Xerxes, for all his ridiculousness, is actually pretty fast. He manages to unleash his electric attack seconds before Kishi's Ice Beam hits and sends him toppling over. Another one hit KO for Katara.]

[Envy is very displeased by how this battle is going for him. And when losing, he'll just resort to more attempts at emotional bullying.] You know, for all your talk about being better than me, you're pretty merciless in battle aren't you?

[He pulls out his Houndoom's pokeball, knowing that if nothing else Lucky was high leveled and might live up to his name. He tosses the ball without shouting, and Lucky materializes with a howl, eager to battle.]

{Nanao looks.... wistful, and almost sad.}

Yeah, I know London.

{Question your brosis y?}

[Very much y. Brosis why do you look sad about this?]

Is there something wrong with it?

[Envy leans forward, interested. Although not as much in London as in something else.]

{Nodding slowly.}

Mm. Although... I wish I didn't.

[That definitely gets a response out of him, in the form of a tightened jaw and briefly clenched fists. But when he responds his voice is measured, but there's a hint of understanding in it.]

Yeah...that I understand well enough.

[He hesitates, just a little, before continuing. But she might be more like him than he'd thought before.] You never did tell me much about what you were exactly, other than in charge of spirits and that you're dead too.

{Ah. She looks away for a moment.}

It's not a story with a happy ending.

I don't much like talking about mine either.

I know, and yet...

I've not even told it to any of my comrades from back home. I suppose I didn't want them to pity me, since what is in the past cannot be changed, and yet it still weighs heavy on me.

[Envy just nods.]

Pity's no good. [He's trying to say that it's not something she'd deal with from him, and an invitation to tell him if she'd like. But he doesn't want to pry too much, not when he has so many secrets himself.]

...do the memories come like normal ones, or are they...different? [He wants to know if they're similar in another way.]

They're more like flashbacks than anything else - usually triggered by silly little things like the weather or a particular type of fabric.

{She stops for a moment, ~~and hopefully she's been told about Father/Hohenheim or else I screwed up~~ and exhales.}

I... wasn't exactly normal as a human. The very fact that I have purple eyes should indicate that - they're from my mother, and they're an indicator of having what was called 'The Gift'. Except for me, in Victorian London, it was a curse, and an irredeemable fault in the eyes of my father.

I guess we have that in common, at least. Horrible fathers.

That's...it sounds similar to what happens with us. ['Us' being homunculi. It's almost a comfort, to know that he's not the only one here who would understand.]

[He listens to her story, his expression darkening at the end.] I guess we do. Bastards.

Well, that's a relief. I'm not alone - but then, I kind of knew that already. {She can speak for other Shinigami who died as humans and were reborn. Those who were born in Soul Society... she has no idea about.}

{She shrugs, but her expression is slightly pained.} I've heard that not all of them are bad. I guess we just got the two worst of them.
