Ninth Transformation [video, locked to France]

[All day, Envy has watched the network and seen all the other people with their eggs hatching. And now, at one in the morning, the shaking and squeaking coming from the egg beside him was telling him that it was his turn. Really it's just lucky that he didn't somehow screw up and break it within a day of receiving it. So he can't help but be a little excited at least that he managed to get the egg to the point of hatching.]

[And France did say that he should call no matter what time it was.]

[The video is alternating between Envy's face and the cracking

egg.] France! It's hatching, are you awake? You said you wanted to see it hatch.

Uwaaaah... yours is hatching already? No fair, no fair! [a little put. someone's egg has yet to even move]

[He snickers, but the hatching happened quickly, and now there is a tiny little Shinx kitten on the bed for her to see.]

With your egg hatching you make it so haaard.

So cu~te. I want one!

I think if yours is taking longer then it must be rare, so maybe I should be more jealous of you. [He smirks, and meanwhile the Shinx has started batting and biting at a loose strand of his hair, growling scratchily.]

...Not sure if you'd want this particular one of these though.

Why not? It's cute, and I want all the cute ones!

So far most of what he's done is bite and shock me, and try to eat my hair. [Totally deadpan.]

Although you can probably get someone to breed you one and hope it behaves better than mine.

[giggle] He sounds like fu~n!

Yes, I do want to see! I finally figured out how to give individual people ringtones of their own, too.

[Envy grins widely to see him, and turns the camera onto the egg, which now has large cracks all over it.] Well here it is, I think it's nearly--

[Suddenly, adorable lion cub! It's trying to look fierce, but that just makes it cuter.]

OH MY GOD

[At the loud noises coming from the Pokegear, the Shinx jumps and whirls to face it, fur sparking with electricity as it lets out a silent kitten hiss. Envy just looks amused at the whole thing, and reaches his hand over, not quite touching the pokemon because lol electricity. It proceeds to bite his hand. Completely ineffectually, so he just laughs.]

Hey, little monster, calm down will you.

It looks like the two of you will get along.

Yeah, maybe. [Although Envy seems to have gotten possessive over the Shinx right away, since he hatched it himself. The cub gives up on his finger for now and takes to trying to attack one of Envy's hanging strands of hair, which he frowns at but does nothing to stop. Instead, he takes the Gear so that he can check on the species and this one's gender. Male, huh?]

I think I'll name him Xerxes.

After the Ancient Persian king?

Hm? [Envy looks confused for a second, but oh wait different worlds.] Nah, in my world there's a legend about a city called Xerxes that disappeared in a single night. They got too prideful and too greedy, and tried to gain the Philosopher's Stone. Wanted to be the most powerful.

This one kind of makes me think of that city...although I don't think he'll be disappearing.

Was the city swallowed up by the sea?

I'm pretty sure that he isn't about to disappear.

That would've been kinda hard since it was in the desert. Some of the ruins are still out there, too, I'd show you if I could.

Yeah, he'd better not. I just got him. [Still, Envy plus tiny baby things is not generally a good combination, and nobody knows this better than Envy.]

There's an old legend where I'm from of a prosperous country called Atlantis that existed in ancient times. The people became greedy and their gods punished them by swallowing the country whole, dragging it down into the bowels of the sea all in a single night, never to be seen or heard from again.

He won't be going anywhere. He looks like he really likes you, after all.

[Envy listens to the story with interest, considering it afterwards.] That does sound similar. Xerxes was before I was around even, but my master researched it while she was trying to create the stone herself. It's funny, though, how our worlds seem to share bits and pieces like that.

[At France's next statement, though, Envy looks a little incredulous, glancing down to the growling, hair-gnawing Shinx and then back up.] What, really?

Everything is probably connected somehow...

He's trying to get your attention. If a babe doesn't like a person, they either cry or try to run away, and he's done neither.

Hell, I wouldn't even be surprised anymore if it was.

...Huh. Hadn't thought of that. [He looks down again more consideringly, and moves a hand to scratch the Shinx's head. Xerxes immediately goes to chew on his thumb, but there is undeniably some happy purring going on too.] I don't really know what I'm doing. Never went near any kind of babies if I could help it.

I can't have children of my own, but I've always adored babies. They're a lot of work, but it's so very rewarding to watch them grow and learn.

You're probably more suited to have one of the eggs than me, then. [He half grins at France, then sighs and mutters.] I dunno if I really want a baby anything, but I won't abandon him.

Baby pokemon aren't supposed to be too difficult to care for; just keep them fed and warm, and make sure they don't pick a fight with anything too big. You'll do fine.

Yeah, small favors that pokemon are sturdy. I guess you're right, I mostly just kicked Chimera around the first couple days and he wasn't too much bigger then. [He says this completely casually, mostly busy contemplating how to go about training something that small. The sooner Xerxes levels up the sooner he stops being a tiny baby thing that needs worrying over right?]

Kicking young creatures around will not facilitate their growth or affection no matter how stud they are. I do hope you don't plan to do that with Xerxes.

[Envy looks at him sheepishly.] No, I wasn't planning to. When I first showed up I just didn't want Chimera following me around everywhere so I was trying to get him to go away.

I just meant that it'd be hard to screw up too badly, I mean he still likes me a lot.

True, true. I suppose it's not everyone's style to go for spoiling as I tend to.

Mine get spoiled well enough when they're behaving. But they have to know I'm in charge or they'd just do whatever they wanted all the time. [Which they pretty much do anyway. Although Envy'd definition of 'behaving' is not the same as most people's. He grins back at France.]

But I guess it's a good thing that you're the breeder or whatever and not me, huh?

I could be a bit more hard-handed with Marianne at times, but she's such a good girl most of the time... A few quirks are alright.

I can't really imagine you as a breeder. You've got too much of a fighter in you.

[Envy smirks and looks pleased.] I'm not gonna argue with that.

Least I didn't wind up stuck with those Team Rocket losers. Surprised I didn't, but I'm sure not complaining.

I always thought that Team Rocket was a pretty goofy name. I'm glad you're not part of that silly organization, too; you're too cute for that.

Oh I am, hm~?

And I wouldn't want to take orders from them either. What do they even do, just steal Pokemon? That would just be boring.

I really don't know. Maybe they collect the used underwear? Who knows?
