As Darkness flew to Sharkhouse, accompanied by a handful of his children and carrying Assumption, his heart was deeply unbalanced.
On the one hand, he was parting ways with his trainer. Walter had raised him from a small Murkrow to the powerful Honchkrow he was now. Walter had trusted him immensely to act as his eyes from afar and as a strong fighter when they had engaged in battles. And on quiet nights, both in their nest and while walking their grounds, they would talk. About both casual things and more serious things. Darkness liked to think that he knew several secrets that precious few others would learn from Walter. So making the decision to stay in Johto, over leaving with him, had not been easily made.
But on the other wing, there was the reason he was staying. Finally, finally, he could be with Lyra and their children. Dropping Assumption off in the garden, he gave a loud cry to announce himself and his other kids, who were quick to chime in, calling for their mom.
Lyra would recognize her love's call anywhere, anytime.
Even though she'd been organizing her glittery collection, even that couldn't distract her from flying out to meet Darkness. And oh! Their children, too! She calls back, and as she does, the portion of the brood living at the house rise up as well, coming to see their father.
The entire sky above the yard is shortly filled with flapping and black feathers, between the lot of them.
"You've come, you're here!"
It may be a little hard to hear over all the other noise, but her caw is a delighted one.
"My love! I am here...and I am staying!" Darkness announced in a booming voice to drown out the children around them. He fluttered down, one wing immediately open to accept Lyra by his side as he cooed lovingly to her, sweet as a Swablu.
"My trainer has decided it was time to fly the nest of Team Rocket, deeming them utterly beneath him, and gave them a display of his power! The fires the humans have talked about on their machines was his handiwork!" Darkness gloated. Of course that's totally what it had been. "But it means he must travel further than I would be able to fly to see you, my darling star. It was not easy to convince him, but how could I soar with my very heart a thousand miles from my body?"
Lyra lets out a cry of absolute joy and delight at the news, settling under Darkness' wing and preening at his side.
"What wonderful news! I had wondered what all the fuss and noise was, but if it has brought you to stay with me, it may as well have been fireworks! And not to be working for that nasty lot of humans anymore, even better."
She croaks in self satisfaction, although then stares up at him out of one beady eye. She knows better than to think this is entirely a happy moment for him. She needs to make sure that her love is alright.
"I am sure you will miss him, though? You have always thought so highly of him."
Darkness's showmanship at announcing his news faltered slightly. Of course, she could peer through him as easily as she could see through fake gold or plastic gems.
"He was not a bold trainer or a social butterfree, and from what I have learned of him it is not a surprise. But as he is, and has now shown, that he is more than a timid, quiet man. He was always glad to talk with me and to teach me not just about fighting, but how to speak. ....Yes, I will miss him. He was a wind that carried me into the air. But you, my dearest, are my very flight feathers. Even with the strongest breeze, I would not be able to fly without you. I chose an heir to leave with him, so he could not be without company." Well, without the company of a Murkrow/Honchkrow.
Darkness always knows just what to say to get her to feel like swooning like a silly young fledgling, and she turns to preen at her own wing for a moment in pleased embarrassment before turning back to rearrange a few more of his feathers into perfect place.
"Always so poetic, my dear. I shall have to improve on my own language if you are to be around all the time, to keep up with you. I don't know how I'll manage to get anything done with you making my heart flutter all the time."
"Your human will be alright with one of our children to guide him, and you'll see him again on occasion, I'm sure. Things have been much calmer between all the humans since this all started."
"Ah Lyra, you dazzle me every day with your beauty! Your intelligence astounds and guides me, my shining star. You do not need to be as...long winded as I can often be, to distract me from whatever I might do." He chuckled, smoothing the feathers of her 'cap' adoringly.
"That is good to hear. Assumption so longs to see his little golden friend far more frequently."
