Twentieth Transformation [video/text/action for Ecruteak Pokecenter]
[Envy's video feed turns on to the sound of very loud, angry, almost frantic shouting and a good view of what seems to be an elbow.]
This isn't where I told it to take me! I can't be back here!
[The elbow, which presumably was what turned the 'Gear on, shifts to show what's going on at a tilted angle. Looks like Envy has woken up from that coma, and not in a very good or sane mood. His expression is twisted into a furious snarl, eyes wild. He's weak from being out for so long, but that doesn't stop him from thrashing. He's desperately kicking his legs to free them from the twisted sheets and punching with his one loose arm at the arms of the concerned Tyranitar that's standing beside the bed and carefully but firmly holding him down. He doesn't seem to notice or care about how he's bloodying his knuckles on his Pokemon's rock skin.]
Let go! I need to get back there, this isn't--that bastard isn't here! This isn't where Hohenheim is and I'm too fucking close--
[His swinging arm knocks into the Gear with considerable force, enough to send it flying and then skidding across the floor before it hits a wall and the feed goes out.]
[It's not until hours later that a short, simple text gets sent out.]
I'm awake again.
((ooc: And Envy is back from his update! Note that since he is now at the end of the series, there will probably be spoilers in the comments. Video responses will come after he's calmed down more.))

[Video]
Envy! You're awake? What's going on?
[Action]
I went home. [His voice is hoarse from all the yelling, and to him it feels almost like someone else is speaking.]
[Action]
What happened?
[Action]
[Envy's quiet for a long moment; he's still halfway processing just being back in Johto. He looks down at his uninjured hand, letting it twist in the blankets instead of looking at France; there are still a few vestiges of that anger from before in his expression, but he's holding it back.]
A lot happened. [Severe understatement.] It's been almost a year.
[Action]
A year? It's be just over a week here.
[Action]
I remembered this place while I was in Amestris. [There's a hint of something bitter and sad in his voice when he says that.] I remembered talking about changing the future. But every time I tried to do anything about that alchemist, something would stop me. I must've done something though, or he's just a good liar, because he didn't kill me.
[Action]
What happened?
[Action]
I was going through the Gate. Right when I got pulled back here, that's what was happening.
[Action]
That place...
Why would you go there?
[Action]
[And for the sake of his revenge he was more than willing to dive right into the Gate without being sure what would happen to him once he was in. His expression darkens just thinking about it, and he mutters.]
Figures this place would drag me back when I was so damn close, and not before.
[Action]
This place works in very strange ways.
Who were you looking for?
[Action]
Hohenheim of Light.
My creator, and my bastard of a father too. [When he says that, there's a tone of old, old bitterness and anger and hurt in his voice. But he doesn't look averse to continuing to answer questions if they're asked, even if he still hasn't looked up.] My master said she'd already killed him, but I found out he was still alive across the Gate. So I went in after him.
[Action]
What...
How did you find out he was still alive?
[Action]
[And of course, Ed could have been lying. But there had been at least a chance.]
[Action]
[Action]
[Envy doesn't say it, he can't make himself form the words right then, but most everything about him transparently says 'I missed you'.]
[Action]
I wish I could have been there for you.
[Action]
I wish you could've...but probably better you weren't.
[It had gotten pretty crazy there in the end, after all. And he's never been good at keeping anyone safe from Dante. He hesitates.] Even...even being pulled from when I was...I can't say it isn't good to be back.
[He squeezes France's hand a little.] I'm glad to see you again.
[Action]
This place does seem a bit less crazy in comparison.
I'm glad to see you, too.
[Action]
I didn't think I ever would.
[video]
E-Envy?!
[Once he recovers from his shock.] I-It's alright now, you're awake, no one can hurt you now-- [Then he hears more.]
Go back where?
[video]
I wasn't worried about being hurt, I was just in the middle of something important back home when this place decided to drag me back.
[He pauses at the question, a little more of that unstable anger showing through and then slipping back into hiding under the calm facade.] To the Gate.
[video]
The Gate? But I thought you were trying to avoid like you did back in the dream, unless... you had a reason to confront it, aru?
[video]
[His face darkens noticeably.] There was someone on the other side I've been looking for for a long time.
[video]
Is it that Hohenheim character you just mentioned, aru?
[video]
...yeah. That'd be him. Hohenheim of Light. [There's a sneer in his voice as he says the name.]
[video]
Who is he?
[A corrupt person in power, or what?]
[video]
[He pauses, considering whether he wants to tell China or not. But hey, what could it hurt, and he did know the other man well by now.]
He's my father.
[video]
[video]
[Another considering pause.] ...he did create me though. And he was the father of the human I was before.
[video]
Do you mind telling me what you saw while you were in that coma? If not, then I understand, aru.
[video]
There was a full seven of us homunculi for a little while, but now most of us are dead...or worse. There's been military upheaval. The Philosopher's Stone was created successfully, but I don't know what's going to happen to it now.
[He shrugs, pretending to be unbothered by any of this.] Like I said, a lot.
[video]
...That is. I am surprised that someone managed to create the Stone, aru.
[There is a hesitant pause before China speaks.]
What do you plan to do now?
[Video]
[Video]
Well wouldn't you like to know, Edward?
[Video]
[Video]
[Video]
[Envy might notice that Ed isn't raging about Envy killing his dad...]
[Video]
I see you're not exactly leaping to his defense.
[Video]
[My God....are...are Envy and Ed agreeing on something?!]
[Video]
I'm not surprised that his parenting skills didn't improve much.
[Video]
[He's not gonna let you go until he knows exactly how you know about him, Envy. Even if you hang up, Ed will continue to call you until you explode.]
[Video]
How do you think I'd know?
I got to experience them myself long before you were born.
[Video]
YOU LYING SON OF A BITCH!
[Ed refuses to accept that he might be in any way related to this guy.]
[Video]
You'd like to think I'm lying, wouldn't you? I guess it would be easier for you not to face up to the two of us sharing the same bastard of a father.
[Video]
[Video]
You don't even know what a homunculus really is, do you?
[Video]
[Ok, he kind of has Ed there, but Ed isn't going to take any more of this crap. He ends the transmission. He's really got something to think about now...]
[Text]
... are you all right?
[Text]
I went home.
[Text]
... I'm guessing something bad happened, huh
[Text]
i was in the middle of something important when i got dragged back here though
[Text]
I kinda figured.
[Text]
[Text]
Just you thrashing around and yelling before the feed got cut.
[action] wow sorry for the immense late :|
[His voice is pretty harsh when he opens it, glaring hard at Envy as he does.]
Stop that, what the hell is your problem?! Cut it out!
[action] no problem XD
Let go of me you stupid human!
[Apologies later, fit throwing time is now. It could be worse, he could be punching craters in the floor.]
[action]
[Not strong at all, but the fact that he does manage a kick makes Tulio angry, and he grips Envy's arm tighter and reaches over to try to hold him down by the shoulder with his other hand, getting a bit more weight behind the action as he draws one leg up on the bed and leans down over him, glare still firmly in place.]
[action 1/2]
You don't get it! I have to get back--
[action 2/2]
[action]
So ... you went back, then?
[video]
I did. For almost a year. [Hello, Mr. Terse. He still isn't looking at Tulio.]
[video]
Did you die?
[action] ...I have no idea why I switched to video
No. Bastard was either delusional or a really good liar.
[action] ahahsfhds I didn't even notice
So what the hell is your problem?
[action] I feel like I should apologize for Envy being such an ass XD;;
I was close to finding someone that I've been looking for for centuries. Why do you care anyway?
[action] haha no worries I feel that way half the time with Tulio anyway xD
Some bastard if you're all worked up. [Deliberately quoting him, he looks at Envy with narrowed eyes.] Haven't seen you this pissed off since I met you.
[action]
[He lets out a short, not at all humorous laugh.] He's some bastard alright, my father.
[action]
What- why, what'd he do to you?
[action]
He created me. Then he stuck around long enough to run some tests and figure out that I wasn't the dead son he'd been trying to get back, I was just some monster. And then...he left. Cut his losses and abandoned me and my mother, and went off to start a new family to replace us with.
[action]
That's ... [he tries to find a word and fails, and then ends up just ... changing direction.] -- okay, I get why you're pissed.
[action]
[For a moment, anyway, before he's frowning again. Envy's secrets come packaged with defense mechanisms, especially that one.] I don't need any pity.
[action]
What, were you getting any?
[action]
[He pauses, and sighs, sounding less snappish.] I didn't kick you too hard, did I?
[action]
[...when they're not using slingshots, the bastards. And as much as he likes the safe topic (and takes a moment to bask in it, because these little fights with Envy are predictable and good), he's not going to forget what information he got just now.]
[action]
[Safe topics are great right now as far as Envy is concerned, while he's trying to get his bearings back. Especially after giving out that particular story.]
[Chimera, who had been watching over the two patiently and quietly, is certainly glad that his trainer is calming down. He leans down and sniffs at Envy's bloody hand, making a worried rumbling noise. Trainer you really shouldn't have hurt yourself like that. :| Envy finally starts noticing that his hand hurts, pulling it away from his face and looking honestly a bit dismayed. That's right, no more instant healing.]
[action]
[But he's relieved you're okay, Envy, honestly. He pauses and looks at the bloody hand as well, then asks with some uncertainty-]
Do you need anything for that? ... like a nurse or something?
[action]
...yeah, probably some bandages or something. [And disinfectant, not that he'd think of that. Fortunately he didn't bust his hand up bad enough to need any stitches, but it's close. Nurse might be a good idea.]
[action]
[Yeah, he still doesn't trust hospitals entirely.]
[action]
[Envy doesn't particularly enjoy being fussed over by the Nurse Joy, and enjoys it even less when he starts getting a lecture.]
--and really, how on earth did you manage to do this to your hand? You really should be more careful. And I received several noise complaints from the rooms nearby, don't forget that this is a hospital and not your house.
[As the lectures continue, Tulio will get to see Envy grow steadily more and more sulkish. And get a few distinctive 'help me' looks as well.]
[action]
Hey miss, I really think he's got it by now. I'm sure you've got somewhere more important to be, right? 'Sides, I can keep an eye on him.
-- but he needs to be properly informed and--
[After a while though he DOES manage to get her out of there, and he closes the door behind her with a roll of his eyes.]
Women, right?
[action]
Those nurses, anyway. I swear, I've never met one that I get along with in any city.
[action]
[action]
Maybe, but if I stayed out of trouble it'd get boring.
[action]
[Hands on his hips, it's almost a challenge. Ah, the familiar trade of wits.]
[action]
[He shrugs, putting a nonchalant smirk on his face. Oh Tulio, you have no idea how much of a relief this familiarity is. He'll never admit it directly but he missed you guys a lot.]
[action]
[Either way, he grins at that comment. Reminds him of someone else he knows:]
You should spend more time with Miguel. ... actually wait, no, don't. It'd be too much of a mess to clean up.
[Video] - LJ, you better work now ; ;
Did he just mention Hohenheim too?]
...Mister Envy?
[Video]
Envy, huh?
[Video]
[Video]
[Video]
[Video]
...you still don't have to call me 'mister'. [This is Envy, perfectly content to dodge the reason why she called in the first place.]
[Video]
[Video]
[Video]
Okay, back to the worried mode because that's why she came here!]
Are you [Okay? No, not that.]... feeling any better?
[Video] adjfksl I'm so sorry this took so long ;-;
Well enough. I was in the middle of something important. I was close to finding someone I've been looking for a long time.
[Action] laaaaate
grindingtraining thing with Lara, with the hopes that maybe she'll stop smacking him around if he does. The end result being that everyone's a little beat up, and resting up somewhere out of the heat sounds really good.][Harry might miss his magic, but it's nice to not have to worry about blowing up the Center's medical equipment just by sitting nearby. Still, old habits die hard, so he's dozing in a chair far from the PC and healing equipment when Envy wakes up and starts raising hell from his room.]
Hell-!
[Harry's up and in Fight-or-Flight mode pretty quickly, but Lara manages to beat him to the punch, bouncing rather painfully off his lap and shooting off towards the source of the noise. Harry's after her, but she's got just enough of a lead to beat him to Envy's room.]
[There is clearly only one proper response to the scene she finds, and that is to attempt to strike a badass pose in the doorway. And then dive at the flailing trainer like a very short, stubby, flightless superhero.]
[Action] best tag to get while reading Ghost Story :D
especially now that he has to get used to not being super fast all over again.]Wh--HEY!
[And direct hit, Lara has managed to knock the wind out of him. He'll be gasping and glaring at her, and in a few moments he tries to take a swing at her too. Chimera leans down quickly to block it from connecting with his own head, she does look like just a baby after all, but Chimera gives her a warning look as he does so.]
Taaar...
[Don't hurt his trainer, little one, he's very worried about Envy already.]
Re: [Action] Ghost Story has not helped with my activity, I admit
Lara, get back here, running in like an idiot is MY jo- oh.
[And enter Harry, standing in the doorway to find -putting it lightly- a tense scene.]
Tell me you didn't just challenge someone to a duel, Lara.
[Action] My activity hasn't been so great either, I'm sorry D:
[And speaking of Envy, he is not looking terribly pleased at the situation. And since he's in a pretty vulnerable position and doesn't know Harry very well, defensiveness and wariness are now bumped up to eleven. Have a rather venomous glare, Harry.] You're lucky it's Chimera that's out and not one of my others.
What do you want?
{Text}
...did, ah, you - {Referring to the last time they talked}
{Text}
that alchemist is either delusional or just a really good liar. i never even fought the bastard.
{Text}
{Text}
might have just wanted to scare me
{Text}
...How are your knuckles?
{Text}
{Text}
A lot of things would be easier here if I had my kidou.
{Text}
{Text}
You could think of it as an umbrella term for our way of harnessing, well, our magical potential, to put it crudely.
{Text}
...how much did you see?
{Text}
{Text}
[Bit of a bad excuse for that huge fit you were throwing, Envy.]
{Text}
{Dead!sis needs to know these things.}
{Text}
very. I was close to finding someone I've been looking for for centuries
{Text; Locked}
I think I see.
{Text; Locked}
[This is followed by a text that's even more delayed than the last one was.]
...it's my father. who I'm looking for I mean
{Text; Locked}
{Text; Locked}
{Text; Locked}
{Is the only thing she'll say.}
{Text --> Voice; Locked}
[Then Envy just stares at that word. He didn't even mean to send it, but in his trying to type out and delete whatever he might have said, he accidentally hit the button. He can't write this down, he doesn't want to have it laid out in front of him like that. But he doesn't want to look at Nanao's face either if he's going to tell her. So he switches on his audio feed instead. His voice sounds hoarse still, and angry.]
He created me. And he didn't-- [He cuts himself off. This is not an easy story for him to tell even if he has already told it twice today.]
{Voice; Locked}
You were created? {She doesn't sound too surprised, actually. Considering that Mayuri had a creepy habit for building weird things, this is not the strangest thing she's heard.}
{Voice; Locked}
Tell you a story. Four hundred years ago, there was an alchemist who had a son. That son died when he was eighteen, but the alchemist wanted him back. So he performed human transmutation to bring his son back to life.
[Envy lets out a low, humorless laugh.] He didn't get his son back.
{Voice; Locked}
...that was you. The transmutation gone wrong?
{Voice; Locked}
{Voice; Locked}
{Voice; Locked}
...now I think it's going to be just me again, soon if not already. The first and last, figures. [His voice holds an odd tone, a little wistful. But mostly just bitter.]
{Voice; Locked}
The one who endures - it seems oddly fitting, in a way.
{Voice; Locked}
...How's it fitting?
{Voice; Locked} and then this tag happened
{She pauses, now, and looks down - and when she next speaks her tone is soft and quiet.} ...I don't want to see you destroy yourself in order to exact your vengeance. I've seen too many people, too many friends destroy themselves by seeking what you seek; and it may be in your nature to do so, but please, think of who would be left behind.
I can only follow you so far, brother. Don't go where I can't see.
{Voice; Locked}
[And even if he could, he wouldn't, because he always seems to wind up breaking them.]
But I intend to survive that too. I'm going to make him pay for what he did, [his voice had darkened there, but then he regains control over his tone] and if wanting that makes me too far gone, then I've been that way a long time. I'll still be myself, the way you know me, hell I might even be better.
{Voice; Locked}
Very well. Just... remember that you have people who care about you, now. Myself, France, Miguel, Tulio... We're here too.
{Why does it feel to her like she's trying to stop someone from committing suicide?}
