[So far, Nagi has avoided contacting the Network on a more personal level than just text entirely. He's up late tonight- though it's rare that he isn't up late- and he'd been searching for something in his Pokedex when a video suddenly flashes on the Network.

...

As he watches, his expression changes from a look of passive indifference to...well, confusion, for one. He can understand sharks being pulled out of the water thanks to a tornado, maybe.

....but. ...]

What is that.

It's a purple cat that fell out of the sky, that's the extent of my knowledge.

[He shrugs in exasperation. The cat just keeps on staring into the camera, unblinking.]

It's not something I've seen before. And I don't know if it's just happening here because I have terrible luck or if they're everywhere.

That's ridiculous.

[The voice comes quickly, even though he's getting visual proof that what Envy is saying isn't a lie. It is literally raining cats wherever he is, and as he hears more dull thumps and mewls of distress, he keeps talking.]

Where are you?

[He snorts, amusement breaking through the annoyance for a second.]

You say that like everything here isn't ridiculous already.

I'm in Olivine. Where are you?

[Yes, well, he is on his feet now and heading toward the nearest exit, if the sound of rapid footsteps and his voice coming from a bit farther off is anything to go by. For a second he's tempted to just ignore the question, but eventually he relents with a sigh.]

Goldenrod.

[There's a pause and the sound of a door being opened, followed by rustling over the microphone.

...Then, quiet like the jaws theme, a chorus of frantic meowing calls out into the night, and without warning Nagi finds himself jerking a hand up as something scales his leg rather quickly.

A few somethings.]

W-...what-!?

[MEW MEW MEW MEW MEW MEW]

[Well that sure answers the question of if this is happening other places.]

[It answers it in the best way possible because somebody might be having a worse time than him now. And that makes it hilarious.]

Careful, if they get on you you'll never get them off!

[Yeah he's only barely not laughing. If only because he wants to be able to hear what happens next.]

[...Well it's a little too late for that now, isn't it? Because now Nagi's shirt is weighted down with one of the small kittens trying to climb up to his shoulder, with another two catching on and starting to climb up his pants.

He puts a stop to that right quick, reaching down with his free hand to pull one of them from his pants leg, only to have it replaced by a fourth almost immediately.

Through it all, the poor things are still coming down. Nagi doesn't answer right away because he is that bewildered, coupled with grunts of frustration over the panicked mews as he tries to peel the little Pokemon from his body.]

When- when did this start?

[He manages to grind out, one of the Pokemon clinging to his shoulder, another held temporarily in his arm, and the other two still beating a path to his other shoulder as fast as they can go.]

Not very long ago!

[The first meeeeeeeewwhump had been written off as 'probably just a Meowth falling off a roof'. Then there had been another. And then it had just been more and more and more.]

Having some trouble?

[He's still trying so hard not to start laughing but there is no hiding this shit eating grin.]

[Shut up.

Once he's righted himself, he's got four Espurrs on his person, hanging on for dear life. There are still many more plummeting from the heavens, and it is quite a sight to behold.]

I'm fine. But these...Pokemon aren't going to be if this keeps up.

Pokemon are sturdy.

If they keep falling like this, they might start piling up enough to be a cushion for the newest ones. Like snowdrifts.

[Snowdrifts made of live cats. Envy may have been talking to Henry a little too much over the years.]

And what becomes of the ones trapped beneath?

I guess they'll have to get themselves out from underneath if they don't want to be there.

I didn't think that far into it, really.

I don't think they will be staying put long enough for that to happen.

[Especially if they're shooting up the nearest trees in their panic...or people, in his case.]

Of course you are. Are they falling out of the sky where you are too?

...they kind of look frightened, actually. I feel sort of bad.

Yeah, so frightened they'll try to shred your arms.

[He points to the one attached to his head.]

I can't get this one off of me.

[He takes this in for a moment. The fact that the cats all seem to have the same haunted stare is a little creepy, to be honest.

But this is also Greed we're talking about here.]

Looks like you've made a friend.

[Yes, really. He's going with that.]

[Envy glares upwards, even though he can't actually see the thing doing that, and lets out a frustrated sigh.]

It doesn't look like I have any choice in the matter.

[Aka he's definitely keeping this animal and he's going to love it. The Espurr mews and kneads at his head some more.]

[It's kind of cute, to be honest. Sure, that... whatever the hell kind of cat it is has a haunted stare, but it seems to like its perch on Envy's head.]

I've never seen a Pokemon that looks like that before. Do you think it's a new species?

...do new species often rain from the sky?

It must be...sometimes a whole lot of new ones will show up.

But it's not usually just one at a time, and they haven't ever rained out of the sky. The last two times, everyone just woke up with a random egg.

I suppose we'll know in a few days if this is going to be a trend all week. Waking up with a random egg would be easier than dealing with it raining animals.

At least they don't seem to be getting hurt.

At least this makes things more interesting. And we get to decide if we want one or not.

[And what they want. With the eggs, Envy's seen plenty of people dealing with the equivalent of a homunculus getting a Yamask.]

Yeah, that's a good point.

Like I said, the animals don't seem to be in pain. Though I can't really tell what the cats are thinking. Or if they're thinking at all for that matter.

[Before responding, Riku walks up to a window. Cracks said window open...

Gets a face full of cat.

By the time he respond over the 'Gear, he's got visible scratch marks on his face, his hair's all frazzled, and he's looking more than a little exasperated.]

You know, I'm almost disappointed. Sure, we got cats, but I don't see any falling dogs. You'd think that if they really wanted to break physics again, they'd go all out.

[Only he'd rather not get hit in the head with a falling Arcanine.]

[Envy just groans at first, not looking at who's talking to him yet.]

Don't even say that. With this place's luck, I wouldn't be surprised if it started just because you said that, and I at least want to get back inside.

[He squints out into the dark, as though making sure dogs haven't started coming down after all. No, still just cats. Then he finally looks at his 'Gear, and snickers.]

Had some trouble yourself?

I'd say to pack an umbrella, but...

[He rubs his cheek, right over one of the scratches.]

Think they're gonna start having to make them out of titanium at this point.

[At any rate, he nods, smiling sheepishly.]

Word of advice: don't open the windows unless you want a face full of claws.

An umbrella might help with the cats, but I really doubt it'd help against dogs. Or anything bigger.

[Sigh. But at the explanation he laughs.]

I'll be sure to remember that. I've had enough claws falling on me for one night.

Man, if we get something too big, we might have to start worrying about Pokémon bursting through the ceiling.

[Shaking his head, Riku takes a seat on the edge of a bed. That Espurr from before is staring at the back of his head. Judging. Watching.

He looks to the side and shudders.]

...So, how's your new cat holding up?

[France is holding one, looking at it's wide-eyed face with a great amount of concern. He has somehow managed to completely avoid any scratches. The one in his hold is entirely docile. In fact, it looks like a terrified rag doll.]

Do they all look like this?

I haven't seen any that look different.

[He leans to peer into the darkness past the awning; there are streetlights, but it's still not easy to see the faces of the cats as they fall from the sky and then scamper away once they've landed.]

...how are we going to get back to the inn in all this?

[Well, it's a lot of things, none of which seem like they need to be said. France sets the Espurr in his hands down at his feet, staring at it. It stares back at him. He gets trapped in an impromptu staring contest of the disturbed before Envy's question draws him out of it. He looks out, reaching up to brush his hair out of his face.]

They don't seem to be aggressive? We could probably try running through them?

[It sounds as lame aloud as it sounded in his head. He puts his face in his hands.]

This is so weird.

[It really doesn't sound like a great idea...but it might be the only idea.]

You'd think we would expect weird by now. But I don't even know what to do with all this.

[He pinches the bridge of his nose, trying to think.]

...maybe if there was some way to tear the fabric off this awning and use it as an umbrella...I don't know.

[THEIR OPTIONS ARE VERY LIMITED.]

[France rubs his eyes. He doesn't expect it to help at all, but it eases the beginnings of a mild headache.]

I would suggest we try some of our pokémon attacking them, but who knows what type these are.

[He would rather avoid a knock out, considering he also doesn't know what level all these falling creatures at.]

[France lowers his hands, straightening up to gaze up at the awning.]

Might be our best bet. Why don't you see if that end has a way to be detached, and I'll work on this one?

[Sure, it's technically stealing, but France will just pay for any damages.]

Even if they fainted, they'd still fall on our heads all the same.

[Envy nods and goes to his end, finding a bolt that can be undone near the bottom. He goes ahead and starts working on it.]

The poor things don't seem to like falling from the sky anymore than we like them falling on us.

Have you seen the looks on all their faces? Every single one of them looks like this.

[He points to the one on his head for emphasis.]

They look like they were rescued too late from a war zone.

[Envy rolls his eyes and sighs with exaggerated frustration, frowning up at the one on his head.]

[Lust bends down out of the frame for a moment and lifts up a quivering Espurr]

He fell into my sleeping bag and didn't leave.

I guess it is. Yours doesn't look like it wants to go anywhere else either.

I'd say it was a bad time to be stuck out on the routes, but I'm in a town and I'm not much better off.

[He glances out at the Espurr rain around him again.]

Where are you and Greed now, anyway?

No, I don't think he does.

Oh, we've made it past Mt. Moon. We're making good time, even with taking it slow.

I've never been over there, is there anything interesting?

I mean, besides the cats that are happening right now, those don't count.

[The one on his head mews. She counts! She's not sure what she counts as but she does!]

Actually, yes. The caves are well worth exploring in depth. Greed and I had ourselves quite a little adventure in the mountain.

[She really can't help but smile at the memory. It had been a memorable night, after all.]

They are endearing little things, aren't they?

[He grins, and then shrugs at the next thing she says.]

I guess I'm getting used to it.

Let's just say it fell under the category of 'Magical'. Or as close as reality offers.

[Between the nighttime spelunking and the Clefairies and the aftermath, Lust definitely thinks it counts as one of those things people refer to as 'magical'.]

There are Pokemon that live in the mountain, I don't think they come out much. They let us spend time in their caves with them.
