38th Transformation [video/text/action for Saffron]

[It's early morning when this feed comes on, the camera focused on an Aerodactyl--which, while already the size of a large dog, still looks young--curled up on the sidewalk beside a sleeping Vaporeon. Said Aerodactyl is decidedly not asleep, and is looking intently at something off-camera. The stillness doesn't last long. His head lowers slightly, back hunching, before exploding into motion. The camera follows him as he…strangely doesn't take flight, but rushes with a hopping gait along the ground using its wings in place of forelimbs. Straight into a flock of Pidove.]

[Fortunately for the birds, they all manage to take to the sky in time to escape, leaving the Aerodactyl hopping in frustrated circles and snapping up at the air. But still he makes no move to fly after them. A few moments later, the Vaporeon that had been sleeping before walks back into sight of the camera, tail waving in irritation as she scolds the Aerodactyl. The dinosaur calms almost immediately, tucking his head down contritely before following her back towards the camera like a duckling. But the camera doesn't linger on this, instead swinging back around to show Envy, who's frowning.]

It's been more than a week since he hatched, and he still won't fly. He should be able to, he was born with the move.

[He sighs frustratedly, leaning back against the bench he's sitting on and gesturing with one hand.]

Like I'd know how to teach something how to fly. What am I supposed to do, throw him out a window and see what happens?

[…which no he's not really going to, he doesn't think it would actually work. There's a reason why he was happy to let his Vaporeon take over the baby dinosaur parenting duties, and that's because Envy does not know how to deal with baby anything, but he still doesn't want it to get terribly injured.]

Pretty much, some adding extra incentive also helps the process.

A tree under some soften earth would probably work the best.

While amusing, I doubt that would be the best course of action.

It should learn to fly on its own. Mine did.

[Granted, one of them was a Natu who couldn't fly and the other was a Skarmory who uh... well. She's kind of a failbird, let's put it that way.]

Yeah, my other flying type figured it out on her own. I don't know what's wrong with this one.

[It thinks it's a Vaporeon, that's what's wrong with it.]

It should figure it out on its own. If it doesn't, then I don't see any harm in giving it a little push.

[...Envy, how do you manage these things...]

[He snickers.]

Out a window doesn't seem so little. Maybe something closer to the ground.

[He doesn't even know how this happened! He was laid up in bed with post-powers sickness, and one day he had an egg and the next he had a baby dinosaur following his Vaporeon around like a duckling.]

What have you been doing lately, anyway? [Envy likes to keep track of what people are doing, it's a habit he's never quite shaken in Johto.]

Maybe it's just slow.

[ Thinking, thinking. Oh! Bright idea. ]

Or maybe you should build it a rocket.

[ Just kidding.

A rocket?

[Envy might not be entirely clear on how rockets work, but he does at least know what they are! He sounds more amused than anything at this suggestion.]

And how would that work?

[ .... But that's kind of mean... ]

Well, you'd strap it on the thing. Probably on its back...

And depending on the type of rocket...

[ Shrug. ]

It'd most definitely fly.

[Mean maybe...but. Dinosaur rocket. How could it go wrong?]

[Envy laughs.] It'd be interesting to see, but somehow it seems impractical.

[As if he's ever cared about practicality. That's Sloth's job.]

[ It couldn't possibly go wrong. Not at all. ]

Well, that depends on what your goal is, doesn't it?

[ No, really. He shouldn't be enabling this. But it's a funny mental image.

Just... please don't actually do it, Envy? ]

Well, if my goal was to terrify everyone on a street, it'd work fine.

[He's fortunately definitely not going to actually do it. Don't get him wrong, he loves terrorizing people with ridiculous pranks. But he likes his dumb baby dinosaur and he'd rather teach it to chase people under its own wingpower.]

But I'd like the thing to still like me.

Then maybe letting it spend some time around more experienced fliers would work better.

Sounds like it could work. I just have to find one that won't just try to pick a fight with him instead.

[ A small chuckle ]

I didn't know Pokemon could be so troublesome. You'd think it'd be easier than raising children.

[He shrugs.]

Well, Envy. I wish you luck teaching that thing how to fly. I've been considering methods of flight, myself. [ But more for him than his Pokemon... ] So if you end up figuring out a method, I'd love to hear it.

You could try to have another one of your flying Pokemon teach him.

Your Vaporeon? I think the bond between them is cute, aru. I kind of wish Cao Cao had someone like that. Maybe if he did, he wouldn't be as hyper as he always has been.

It's weird, they're not even close to the same type.

[He doesn't get it at all. But he shrugs, and laughs.]

She does do a good job keeping him in line, though, I'll give her that.

She's adopted him, so it's not completely strange even if they are not the same species of Pokemon.

If only Meimei had that kind of a hold on Cao Cao, but it looks like she thinks of him more as an older brother. [Since he did hatch long before her.]

Humans adopt other humans too. It's during such times that the better side of humanity shows itself.

He was. He certainly isn't little anymore, aru. He is a Flygon now, but he still causes me trouble. I remember the first time I rode his back, he took me on a wild roller coaster ride through the sky. I thought I was going to be sick!

[Envy doesn't really have a response to that first part, so he just shrugs.]

At least he didn't throw you off. With how high some of these things can fly, it wouldn't have been good for you.

Cao Cao may be a trouble-maker, but I don't think he would go that far. However, you are still right. I would have been badly hurt and I might have been put back into that wheelchair, or worse.

It's good that didn't happen, then.

A friend of mine thought that there should be some sort of training center for troublemaking Pokemon, but I couldn't find one. It's strange there isn't, you'd think the locals would have thought to set one up. They must have to deal with this too.

...I don't know if it's your influence on me talking, but perhaps you should give it a try. From a second story window, maybe. Nothing too drastic.

Just the second story shouldn't hurt him, he's a rock type.

You could try that, but it wouldn't make a difference if his wings are too small to support his weight. Instinct and knowledge can only do so much.

that's assuming wing size would have as much to do with it as it would in a normal world. My other flying type has four leaves for wings and flies just fine.

Just because that's normal for one species doesn't mean it's normal for every other. It's rare that any sort of flying animal can fly without needing to be taught one way or another, even if they're physically capable of it.

But if you have another flying type, that may be your solution already. Have it teach him instead of throwing him out a window.

Do you have many other options? Like you said: it isn't as if any of us could teach him how to fly.

If she won't play teacher, however, you could try and borrow another person's flying type and use them instead. It may work better in the long run.

I guess. I'm sure one of my group has a flying type they could lend me. I'll just have to get the vaporeon to let him out of her sight for more than a few seconds.

If nothing else, he would be able to keep up better. The rocket would have to come back down at some point, if it didn't explode first.

Still, I'd rather exploding wasn't an option in the first place. I don't know enough about rockets to be sure it wouldn't. I'll just go with talking one of my others into teaching him.

Have you tried? Even the most stubborn of creatures will back down at some point, if given enough of a reason.

You might have to bribe them, as well. I suppose that would depend on their temperament.

[Being that the baby is Envy's baby, in that special Envy way, some of his others might be jealous and need extra attention. Or something. Who knows.]
