33rd Transformation [video/action for Olivine]

[It's early morning when the feed opens on a Gym battle already in progress; and it's being filmed by something standing next to Envy's legs. He doesn't actually know this is being filmed. In the arena, there's a Skarmory engulfed in fire from a Flamethrower attack coming from Envy's Houndoom. It goes down in one hit, unsurprisingly. Looks like someone's finally taking on Jasmine.]

Lucky, get back over here!

[Have you ever seen a smugger Houndoom than the one that comes trotting back towards the camera-holder? The sunglasses Lucky wears just make it worse. But Envy…doesn't really sound too into the battle. It's odd, he usually sounds smugger when he's winning. But he just sounds bored, with almost an edge of frustration as he sends his Lucario out to face Jasmine's Magneton. The Magneton goes down easily enough after just a couple of attacks, but these attacks left Samus open to take no small amount of damage from Thunderbolt. There's not any attempt to toy with it or do anything interesting, just to hit it with super effective attacks until it went down. He's been battling like this for the past few weeks.]

[And then out comes the huge form of Jasmine's Steelix, leaving Samus looking very small and easily-crushed in comparison.] Aura Sphere.

[The attack does look impressive, with Samus' entire body glowing with blue energy before she fires a beam directly at the Steelix's face. The Steelix roars, shaking its head, and then charges, knocking Samus into the air and across the room with a Headbutt. …Not the OHKO Envy had been half-expecting. In fact, it doesn't seem to have done a whole lot at all. Samus pushes herself back up to her feet, and just barely manages to dodge another strike.] Come on, hit it again! Force palm!

[Yeah, that works even less well than the first attack. Except for how, in some stroke of luck, the Steelix winds up paralyzed. There's a pause before Envy gives his next command, as though he's realized something.]

Start screeching and don't get hit!

[If there's one thing Samus is good at, it's being fast enough to outmaneuver her opponents. The Steelix isn't able to keep up and actually hit her with anything, especially not while it's paralyzed and growing more and more disoriented from the Screech attacks Samus aims at it whenever she has an opening. By the time Envy calls out a command for her to use Close Combat, he's sounding much more invested and like his normal self. Which is to say, he sounds like he's wearing a smirk bigger than his face. This kind of strategy is much more his style.]

[Samus actually runs up the Steelix's back to deliver the powerful attack to its head, and this time it actually works. Down it goes, and the battle is over. Whatever camera-Pokemon was filming doesn't seem to be interested in continuing now that the battle is over, and clicks the feed off.]

[A short while later, Envy turns the video on himself, as he's standing outside the gym holding up his prize. He's actually looking fairly pleased now, in contrast to how he sounded before.]

And that's five of these things.

[He'll be hanging around outside the gym for a little while longer before heading back to the inn. He didn't actually tell anyone in his group that he was going, aside from a scrawled note saying he was at the gym and would be back. Even he recognizes that vanishing when nobody's awake right now would be bad. But early morning restlessness equals 'time to fight the gym right this second' apparently.]

So five now, hmm? Going to go after the next one, then?

If I ever get over to Mahogany. I'm not really in a hurry, they don't seem to do much besides offer more of a challenge than the trainers on the roads. And I think the one I just got lets me use my Pokemon as a way to cross water.

[It's really only recently he started going after them; it was almost a year before he even had two.]

And what about you, are you taking the challenge? [Because that would mean Hughes would be traveling all over the place and Envy wants to ~~stalk him~~ know what he's doing.]

Probably not any time soon! [ Laughing a little ] Battling and all that isn't really my thing.

[He laughs a little back.] Not much for violence, huh?

Not particularly, no. That's what desk jobs are for, right?

Guess so. Have you always had a desk job?

[He leans forward a little, putting on a casually curious expression. He distinctly remembers Lust getting stabbed in the face and him getting his throat cut while he was killing his version of Hughes, and he'd like to be a little more prepared if it comes to fighting this time around.]

Pretty much!

[ There's a pause, and then he adds, ]

I fought in a war, once. But other than that, it's been all desk jobs.

[ He'd rather not talk about the war... it isn't something he cares to remember. ]

Ah, I see, you have no problem notifying the entire Johto population that you have just won a badge, yet you don't inform your own team where you're going.

[ Hey. Envy. Have a passive aggressive "I'm glad you did well" note. ]

Congratulations. [ ... |: Big sis is upset you left her. ]

It's not like I'm staying here, I'll be back in Goldenrod in less than a week.

[And after all, what is communication? Whoops. But despite acting like a huffy teenager, he does look at least the very tiniest bit contrite. Which is to say almost completely unnoticeable BUT STILL. Come on big sis don't be upset at him. :( ]

I was just paying someone a visit and getting this badge.

I'll be expecting you. The next time you leave, would it do any harm to send a brief text message? [ the answer to this obviously no. |:

She isn't sure how the other Lust could get much done, but then she remembered she was a softie and sort of mentally moved on with a weird mental kanyeshrug. She notices the contriteness and forgives him, as expected, anyways. ]

And just who was this special someone? [ She'll address the badge later in the conversation. ]

I'll remember that next time.

[Which is close enough to a promise for Envy! ...Other Lust probably only got stuff done because of Dante keeping Envy in line. He shrugs at her question.]

[ Oh! Hey! Heather! The one girl she vaguely likes. ]

Oh? You were visiting Heather? All is forgiven. [ This isn't because she likes Heather, this is just because, compared to everyone else, she likes Heather. ] She is quite an interesting young girl.

You know her? I didn't realize.

[Envy's actually gotten pretty fond of Heather over time, for a variety of reasons. ~~like her rescuing him from Silent Hill dreamland after a monster beat him up and chased him into a closet~~]

Very interesting. How long have you known her?

Yes. We've met during August. She replied to that post I made. [ You know... her only post.

Lust will grow even fonder knowing she bothered to rescue such a comrade! That she views as sort of inept at causing organized destruction without her assistance. Oh well, he's good at causing regular destruction! Not the "by the rules" destruction Lust buys into. ] We still talk from time to time.

[And Envy is perfectly happy to let her think that he's more inept than he actually is. He does trust his homuncusis a lot more than he does most people, but he'd always rather be underestimated.]

Does she know anything about you?

[France grins broadly.]

[He slept in today, so he's still in his pajamas. Or, well, the bed sheets, which pass as his pajamas.]

Would you want to travel to Kanto once you've got them all? I have to say, I've been curious to see another place...

[Envy doesn't have to think about his answer to that for very long at all. He grins back.]

I do have a train pass...going to see whatever's over there would be interesting. [Not to mention, going somewhere not Johto sounds like a great idea at this point.]

[France hums light, stretching back on the bed and staring up at the camera.]

Some the names of the towns sound familiar to me, more like the game that Japan made a while ago. I don't know what that means, but I am eager to see how it will look like.

[He doesn't say "in real life" or "in person," but it's pretty well implied.]

Maybe they'll have different kinds of food over there. Johto has a lot for a place that only seems to have one farm, but it would be interesting to see if there's a variation in cuisine.

So it's a game in your world too? Heh, guess you'll already know your way around when we get there, then.

[The mention of different food gives him a moment's pause to consider. Huh, he hadn't thought about how Johto only had one farm.] There should be, if it's like another country. If there wasn't, that would be...

[Kind of creepily odd, to be honest.]

[France nods.]

It's an extremely popular one. I played it a while back, although I wasn't nearly as serious as some people could be.

[Yeah, the one farm, one Johto thing kind of really weirds France out if he thinks about it too much. He's honestly hoping to find more farms or some such in Kanto. He's been guessing that this place is an import economy. He grins brightly, trying to myriad of feelings associated with the oddity of this place.]

Maybe we'll finally find quality wine there.

[Priorities: France has them.]

[Envy nods at France's explanation of the video game; it lines up with what he's heard from other people. ...he wonders if all the people who know about the video game are actually from the same world.]

[He can't help laughing a little at the comment about the wine, though. Because of course.]

We'll look for some when we go. And hey, maybe Kanto's far enough away that the insane things that happen here won't follow us.

[France chuckles slightly and lifts his coffee mug to Envy with a wink.]

[He takes a long sip before returning it off-screen, looking thoughtful.]

I remember that there was an volcanic island there from the game. I had wondered if it would be a nice place to visit, like the equivalent of a tourist spot.

Well, I've never seen a volcano in person before...

[Color him intrigued.]

Do you remember how far it is from where the train ends up?

We'll have to go then! Volcanos are extremely impressive; they're beautiful in photos, but nothing beats seeing one up close and personal.

[France pauses, thinking hard on that before shaking his head.]

No, I don't remember exactly, but finding it shouldn't be too hard once we get there. The maps in this place are pretty reliable.

Yeah, about the only things that are reliable here.

[He hadn't meant to when he said it, but he can't help but remember the disappearances, and his grin drops for just a moment before he puts it back on. Although now he's curious about something.]

Are there volcanos near you back home?

[He gives England a grin, and can't help but look a bit smug.]

Thanks. I didn't get the badge last time I was here, so I wanted to this time.

Understandable. Maybe I should try for one at some point. I've just never had much inclination.

The one from Cianwood was worth it for Fly.

[Shrug.] They're something to do. And more challenge to fight than the trainers on the roads.

Yes... that one would certainly be useful for getting around. Walking still takes a long time although Gabriel seems happy to carry me now.

It'd be nice if there were cars or trains to take. But in Amestris there aren't any of the flying machines I've heard other people here mention, so I guess I'm lucky that Pokemon seem so willing to carry their trainers.

Aeroplanes are a very new thing for me as well, although they have made themselves invaluable over recent years. It does surprise me that they have such a poor transport system considering the myriad dangerous Pokemon along the roads. Seems rather careless.

Well, congratulations. Though, I have to ask... was that dog of yours wearing sunglasses...?

They're some kind of thing that makes dark attacks work better...and he used to belong to Greed.

[And Greed is clearly contagious. But there is definitely a note of 'ugh, that guy' when he says Greed's name.]

I'm probably lucky he doesn't try to wear ugly vests too.

Giving your Pokemon a pair of sunglasses makes dark attacks more effective? These things get stranger by the minute.

This is the first I've heard that Greed was here, though I suppose it doesn't matter much now. Was he yours or ours?

If only that was the strangest thing I've seen here.

[Could've done without the soul-stealing cicadas or the lizards that turn into cocoons and then into dinosaurs, Johto. He shrugs; he doesn't mind answering the question. This Bradley hasn't been insufferable about anything yet.]

He vanished months before anyone else from Amestris showed up. [Which Envy actually doesn't sound entirely pleased about.] He was from my world, I'm sure of that. What's yours like, anyway?

[He's both mildly curious and, now that he thinks of it, he'd rather not be as caught by surprise as he was with some of the other homunculi that had appeared.]

Hm... no, I'll agree with you there. I'm sure there's stranger out there.

also ugh, greed. greed really pisses him off. ...more than most things, anyway.]

...I see... well, I see no problem with talking about him, anyway. I only met the original version once, as he split off from the rest of us a long time before I was born. It was a fairly eventful meeting, though, as I was sent to drag him back to Father, who promptly melted him down for reabsorption.

Father eventually used a Xingese prince as a vessel to recreate him, which was a fairly poor idea given that after a short period of loyalty he ended up cooperating with his human host and doing basically the same thing he'd done before.

[Envy's almost amused by the description, because you know that sounds exactly like something Greed would do, as incredibly annoying as it was. But he's more distracted by, well, the whole 'cooperation with a human host' thing. He knows by now that the other world's homunculi are pretty different, but still.]

The human was still alive for him to cooperate with?

[DOES NOT COMPUTE.]

Somehow, yes-the human's soul was still present, after all, so I assume that they just came to some sort of shaky agreement instead of trying to destroy each other, because humans are fairly terrible at knowing when to quit and Greed is a sentimental idiot.

That's...nothing you just said would make sense in my world.

[But he's going to assume that Bradley is telling the truth because who would make something like that up. And it doesn't contradict what Lust has told him, either. He pauses for a second.]

Except for humans not knowing when to quit. And Greed being an idiot.

Ah, yes. Your world is quite a bit different... but it's good to see that there are some universal constants.

Humans don't seem to be too different in any world.

[Although this isn't said with nearly as much derision as Bradley might be used to hearing from Envy. Not that this derision isn't still present, but...Envy's honestly not sure what he thinks of humans these days, not after running with a pair of them for more than a year and knowing several more, not after living like one. And even some of his closest non-human friends--still a foreign word in his mind--are so closely related to them. Hell, France is technically made up of them and he loves France. Humans have gotten complicated.]

It would be quite surprising if they were.

[made up of humans? well, he's practically dating a manga style homunculus anyway!

...but no, really. He's not going to draw too much attention to that. Humans, as much as they frustrate him, keep things interesting.]

_{[He'll be there when Envy returns, looking kind of pensieve and out of it himself - but he lights up when Envy shows up, and stands to pat him on the shoulder, raised eyebrow smile go.]}

He-hey, not bad.

[Envy gives him a grin; his lack of sleep is starting to catch up with him, so he's looking tired. Tired, but not unhappy.]

You saw the video?

[He's figured out that the battle was filmed by now.]

Yeah. Who did the honors this time?

_{[He'd bet on Chimera, but you never know.]}

Little Bear had the camera, if that's what you're asking.

[He shrugs and sighs.] I'm starting to think I should hide it from him.

_{[And this, he points out very sensibly.]}

I'll just have to hope they don't find it.

[He moves to where Tulio had been sitting before to steal his spot. Once he's sitting, he leans his head back to look at the ceiling.]
